I was originally set on the savage 4.6 rtr but now I have heard great things about the MGT. Parts support is basically the same at my lhs so thats not a problem. I am really just bashing and the occasional race with my friends. I have heard the savage is tougher but have heard the MGT is easier to work on, is this correct? Also which engine is easier to tune, start, and more reliable. If I'm correct there both spin start so thats similar. Answers would be very helpful.
I'd still stick with the Savage. I've driven/broke in/setup multiple MGTs in my day and they seem, hmm cheap? compared to the Savages. MGT aftermarket support is a rather sad sight also, nothing really there. The K4.6 is MUCH more reliable also, probably one of the best RTR big blocks out along with the Losi.
what about an lst2? because you know your gonna put those sweet shocks on your savage.
Never put lst shocks on the savage. They handle like crap, plus you will break more shock parts than you can ever imagin they work great on the lst but not so much on the savage. Big Bores FTW.
Go with the savage anyday over the MGT. I bash with MGT's, lst's, T-maxx's, and revo's none of them can hold a match to my savage.

lst's can be great shocks but involve alot more modding to the shock and to the truck that the BB's. Both have to be shortend but the lst's require special mounts plus they can be a bit bouncy. As we all know with a little work nearly anything is possible with the savage.

no no no no, well yes yes yes yes, until the part about the k4.6, you HAVE to be thinking about the F4.6, the K4.6 has a bad one way design, has a terrible leaky carb with a mid range needle that has a mind of its own, and i've heard of exploding pisons...
the f4.6 http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXTHD0&P=7
the k4.6 http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXJXT5&P=7
^WOW $200 for that WAY OVERPRICED that is a crime, its an axail .28 from what i've read, you can get way better motor's for that $...
other than the k4.6, the savage is the way to go i love mine

the lug
So true about the mid range needle and carb. I put the carb off of a busted Novarossi P5 and it makes the motor come to life.
...... Associated makes the MGT not Thunder Tiger.
Go to Thunder Tiger's website.
From an Engineering standpoint, the MGT is a low quality duplicate of a T-Maxx.
Thunder tiger formed this knock off with an extruded piece of aluminum, an airplane engine, traxxas suspension, and some bigger differentials.
T-maxx imitation!
-The A-arms
-The suspension geometry (of the original t-maxx)
-The steering knuckles
-The tiny 6mm axles with tiny 6mm ID bearings that go out all the time
-The 2-speed clutch inside the transmisison is almost the same
***To bad they didn't design in a way to prevent the transmission from shifting into reverse while in motion. Oops, maybe Traxxas patented that and the folks over at Thunder Tiger have no original ideas of their own. Guess you will have to deal with stripped out plastic gears or broken transmission shafts.
The plastic shocks blow apart, the tiny shock towers shatter upon impact, the the knuckles pull off the pillow balls, the skidplate/bumper mount breaks off the first time you hit anything, the upper arm mounts bend after a few impacts and make the suspension bind, fiber brake that provides NO stopping power, no nipple on the exhaust??!?...
The shocks are not mounted far enough to the outside of the suspension arms, so no matter what you do with the viscosities of the oils or the spring rates, you always end up with a shitty ride.
HALF METRIC/HALF STANDARD GIVE ME A FUCKING BREAK!!!
Easy to work on... It better be, because the truck will always need work.
If I had to sell somebody a NEW r/c car of ANY kind, I would feel 100% comfortable selling them the Savage X.
Any questions?

Man,...you have to go with the Savage. The aftermarket is so plentiful,...as deep as your bank account can handle. IMO I think the Savage is very well built. And with the 4.6's introduction, HPI just put the icing on the cake, (new radio tray)...then there came the XL. Sure, it's a pain in the butt to remove one of the chassis plates to change out the tranny, but really, how many times do you remove your tranny. I can pull my mill out in less than 5 minutes, disconnect the electronics in 3 minutes, and completely hose the truck down (if I wanted to.) I say that to say, don't let something like hard to work on discourage you. I call it craftsmanship. As for the engines,...any nitro engine can be a pain if you start wrenching on the settings. The 4.6 mill can pull wheelies so a wheelie bar is in order. And besides' a few months down the road, you'll be wanting a 5.9. The best way to becide is to look at them,..both,...side-by-side. As the owners of both at you LHS, find out the pros and cons, then make your decision. Happy Hunting.
I would go with a Savage all the way.
Like some said the aftermarket used parts pool is endless .
New hop ups as well.
You can really make a Savage your own for little money, chose stock or extended chassis, mid tank, tons of bodies to chose from etc etc ...
The fact that it s so popular also gives you instant access to endless informations, tips and the pleasure of sharing your progress and work with a whole community of enthusiats, that s also what I love about the Savage.
I bashed with a friend who has a MGT and he couldn t keep up with my Savage SS that has only a Mach 427 in it. The handling of the MGT was very disapointing both on road and off road.
I like the Losi LST, it s a very well thought and built truck and handles great. I have an LST also in Monster truck set up, I don t turn my MT into truggies, if i d want a truggy i d get one
Problem with LST is that it s a lot harder and more expensive to ge parts, lot less people to chat about em too and less ressources forums.
The handling and weight distribution, conception is a lot better stock vs stock that a Savy. Handles a lot better, very responsive and dynamic truck.
The bad side of all that is that it s also a lot more complicated and not as sturdy as a Savage in my opinion. I love both, two different approaches and two great trucks. JUst all comes down to what YOU Want .
Hope that helps
