Brushless lst almost complete
Well, after Losifiend put the idea in my head I decided to jump on it. Got a good price on a nice LST roller, picked up the motor mount and single speed conversion, and have been wrenching away for the past two days tearing the truck apart and rebuilding.
First thing: I tore out the throttle/break servo and reverse servo. I was going to put in a FOC since the motor obviously can turn in reverse and back the truck up if needed which would work just fine. Also tore off the whole break setup since again the motor has built in breaking. Really lost alot of weight doing this which I think is a nice added bonus.
Second thing/question: After getting the motor installed, single speed, 66 tooth spur and I put a 16 tooth pinion on my mamba monster 2200. My plan is to run 4s, 35 mph will be plenty as long as I have good torque and some wheely power. With the 16/66 gearing, the pinion barely meshes the spur. It will engage, but one pull on the throttle and the spur will be shredded, its barely a mesh at all. The motor mount is designed so when you spin it the motor gets closer or further from the spur and this is with it spun so its as close as possible. Now, I know the simple fix would be to pick up a bigger pinion, slap it on, and call it good. I also know that gearing just to make it fit is a bad idea, and in all honesty Im not sure of where I should start gearing with this truck and its gear ratios. I know nothing about it.
LONG STORY SHORT: To those who have a clue, on 4s with my 2200 and a 66tooth spur, what pinion should I start with that should mesh. Keep in mine that the 16tooth wont mesh correctly, I think 17 or 18 would, but again I dont know where to start and I dont wanna overheat this motor.
Third and last thing/question (for now): Battery mounting. The way I have it setup now, the esc is right behing the motor in the area where the fuel tank used to be. This keeps the wiring nice and neat and I feel it is very secure there. This leaves my 4s 5000mah turnigy lipo to be mounted up front. I have seen some lipos layed sideways across the chassis which looks ok but Im not sure exactly what battery box would work on this chassis since I dont want to leave a soft pack lipo overhanging even the slightest bit off the chassis since this is going to be a bash rig. I battery box to shield it a bit would make me feel more secure and not have to worry about the lipo. I also thought about laying the lipo from front to back in the front of the truck over the steering servos but again need some way to secure it all. Basically any input or answers to this problem of mine would be awesome.
Ps: That thing above wasnt the last thing, this is: The spur gear cover no longer fits with this motor mount. Did you guys hack yours up a bit to make them fit, or you think it will be ok to just leave it off?
Once this thing is back together Ill shoot some pics for you all!
