New to Nitro...
Hey guys. First things first, I'm new around here and I must say this is a nice forum. As the title of the thread states I'm totally new to Nitro, been with electric for many years and was just given a Nitro Monster Truck, a Duratrax Nitro Quake for free. Needs a few odds and ends but nothing serious. My main goal with it is to strip it down, clean it and rebuild it so I learn how they work. Did a little bit of reading on the motor it comes with, the Torq 3.5 and I hear its trash, was wondering if anyone here could recommend a new motor and maybe a place to buy some parts for the truck. Thank you in advance.

Hi. My first chioce in nitro is OS. Strong and reliable.
When looking for a new motor you must match things like the shape of the shaft, mounts (small or big block), exhaust (side or rear), carb (slide or rotary), starting (pull, electric, etc.). If you can match all these, its easy swap.
I dont now about the Torq, but if you want to learn about nitros, try fixing this one before buying new engine.
Enjoy

Axial make a pretty good motor that are not much over a $100. They have a lot of torque to get these big MT rolling. If your willing to spend more on the motor then there are a lots of choices. Picco .28 is a good one too.

engine choice
I've had a XTM 24-7 for 7 or 8 years in my old Kyosho Nitro Crusher. It starts after the first few pulls, idles great, and has awesome power to get this big, heavy, old-school truck moving. Good torque and top end. I'm sure the newer ones have been improved many times over. It's a very inexpensive engine but a good one. Distributed by Global, sold online by Hobby People and probably some others. I'd try your local hobby shop first no matter what brand you buy. Good luck.
