Default Emaxx 16.8- The racing thread

So, has anyone had one of the new Emaxx 16.8s out on the track? I'm going to get one next month. Do some club racing with it and maybe take it to a few regional races.

What setups are you running? (suspension or electronic)

How is the new drivetrain?

How does the truck handle compared to the Revos and LSTs you normally see?

I'm thinking of going with a simple setup, HV4.5, new radio gear obviously, EP4600s or SMC 5000s, new tires, wing, and some suspension tuning. Then go from there regarding what areas of the truck need to be adressed for better handling or durability.

Well i havent driven but ive heard good things about them, i would buy one. i havent seen anyone race them because hobby shops cant get parts for them, because traxxas is still busy makeing the cars and they havent many spare parts so like towerhobbies.com has the little bit of spares because they can pay to get them. but the parts that are the same from the t-maxx that are on the new E-maxx will fit, like bulk heads and other big parts

good luck with the truck

Quick question. Can the stock ESC handle brushless motors or would I have to buy a new ESC to use them.

Nope. The stock ESC is for brushed motors only.

OK thanks. My E-maxx is on the way. So I will just push those motors and ESC until they burn then I will get the Novak HV system and run 2 5400mah LiPos

I haven't raced my emaxx yet, but I strapped in two new IB4600s and two Trinity monster motors and the thing was smoking fast!! I literally mean so fast that I actually smoked the one motor (endbell melted right off!!)

Ohh one other question. If I switch ESCs and Motor, will that kill the the whole waterproofing thing? If so is there a way to waterproof the Novak ESC? I like puddles.

Yep.

Use melted candle wax and seal up any opening, creases or exposed circuitry. Be aware that doing this will cause your ESC to run hotter, as the case being sealed up will prevent proper air circulation.

Now I think about it, wax may not be suitable for monster truck speed controls, since it runs considerably hotter than ones in rock crawlers. In that case, look for silicon sealant at your local hardware store.

I read somewhere about "plasti dip". I don't know what that is, But I read that they waterproof electronics well.

TomBlaze...you might want to wait a little bit more. Castle Creations is going to release their Monster Maxx Brushless system. Also, I read some where that Novak will release an updated HV Maxx system. Good specs and already had the Mod 1 pinion shaft assembled.

Thanks for the input guys. I will hold off on the HV system then. I will just throw a pair of LiPos in there for longer run time and more power. I will also hold off on burning up the motors.

I swear this is the only hobby where breaking stuff is fun.

I have not really raced but been out at the track testing my setup. Here is a small video of my practice run, this was a few months back. I since have upgraded tires to proline tires with velocity 1/2 offset, rpm all around. Now to upgrade this bad boy to a brushless to run with the nitro guys that come out to the track.

And in case your wondering what all that noise is in the background, it is the on road track

Nice vid. for awhile there, I thought your E-Maxx became T-maxx because of the noise. Yup, with the right set-up...the e-maxx is capable of racing.

Well since this is the racing thread, maybe I can ask some of the veterans on here what brushless set up to go with to keep up with the nitro off road guys at this track? With word the mmm will be out very soon, would this be an ideal esc and what motor to run to get some top speed, yet not overheat after 10 minutes? I am really being patient on a brushless setup and waiting for the www.rcx.com show to see what new products are out there that will be realesed soon. So any suggestions/tips would be greatful in helping an emaxx keep up with nitros.

Thanks
