Personal track surface suggestions
I want to make a track to drive my Atomic AMZ and other 1/24th scale inroad cars on. This will go into an area that is roughly 16' x 20'. I'm trying to decide between the following options:
• RCP ready made track
• RCP blank tiles and make my own
• Or buy cheap foam floor tiles
I'm leaning towards the RCP blank tiles currently. Do you have any recommendations on an ideal track surface?

I have driven on the RCP tracks and I am not as much of a fan of them as I am just running on low pile carpet. The RCP tracks chew up my tires quicker and the car bounces around more from the connections. If you can put down some wood or cork board underneath carpet then you can use some wood screws to hold down some small water hose for barriers. I would suggest using duct tape to hold the hose at first until you get the course laid out how you want it though.

Is there a particular type or brand of carpet that is best?

Low pile, preferably multi direction weave carpet. But I've ran my m18 on regular low pile that you would purchase from your regular hardware store and it did just fine, it just came off the track looking like a fuzz ball but the directional weave had a small impact on handling, but it was still fun!

Having purchased 2 Wide L RCP tracks 3 months ago I can tell you that I really like mine. The 2 Wide Ls will fit just fine in a 16 x 20 room. I tear it down and build a different track configuration each week.

Can anyone recommend a floor tile to get? I was looking at these on Amazon but it was tough to tell how uneven they were. But less than $100 for 144 sq ft is a great price, if they work.

They work good , As long as you lay it down on a flat surface the interlock tabs keep the surface smooth .
A bit more expensive but being multicolored you could layout a track pattern
pretty easy

They're actually not much more expensive. Only an extra $0.08 per sq ft. I really would rather stick with black/gray though. Otherwise I'll feel like I'm racing on Mart Kart Rainbow Road.

Yea I keep it all black side up . I had a few pieces that I picked up from sears but basically were destroyed within a year , Sams one have lasted 3 yrs so far
So the quality is there

Thanks!
My wife, 7, and 9 yr old are having a blast racing each other. Helps with homework too. The kids can't race until the homework is done :-)

What do you guys think about something like this? More expensive than the foam stuff but it seems like it would have more grip.
