I too have read through this whole thread and did not see anybody else reporting this issue until you just now did.
Hey dubgixxer, how does that particular HK motor perform as an upgrade? Do you get the same performance as stock? I bought a bunch of pinions to fit a 2mm shaft so the XK2435 4600KV looks to be my next upgrade. Would like some info on how it performs, do you need to mod the chassis to fit it in, gearing setups, thanks.

It's a great motor and no you don't need to modify the chassis to make it fit.

Hi AJ
I had read you M8T thread at other forum, nice truggy.
Do you want to tried an outrunner motor from Hyperon HP-HS2221-4400
It is a clone of the scorpion 2221 motor but much cheaper, lot of torque and speed, I used them on both of my M8 and M8T For two years now and still work great.

Sorry AJ
I had checked again the HS-2221 4400kv motor are discontinue and I can't find any cheaper price any more. It was a really power little motor.

6 post

Outside diameter 27.9mm
Body length 38.3mm
Motor Shaft 3.17mm
Weight 81g

525watts
52A max
3s lipo
Too bad , i didn't see that on sale anymore, it was 14$us. At aircraft world.
The Scorpion costs 80$us

this is how i mod my motor mount to get more space from the chassis."no need to mod the chassis"

I have that same motor in my Associated Mini Rival. It works like a champ; tons of torque for its size, though it does get very hot after a hard run.

Someone over on URC said they managed to stuff a 380-can Velineon motor into their M8T without any chassis modifications. If that's accurate, then it seems Losi has modified the chassis design to allow larger motors.

So here's a question: If I already have a MERV, and I'm happy with it and it isn't breaking like crazy, is there any reason I should still consider getting a M8T? (besides the "he who dies with the most toys wins" principle, of course.) I've always considered them comparable vehicles, in purpose if not in design. If I already own one, is there any reason to buy the other?

depends on what you you be doing with it? racing the M8T has handling over the MERV.
Bashing for simple traxxas part support would be better than M8T

for little light bash and racing id stick with the M8T. if you do the required shiming to the diffs its a good car.

Nope. There is no reason why you need to have both. Wants and needs are two different things though.

Default Which gearing for new motor on Mini 8ight T?

Just purchased a Leopard 2845 4420kv for $29.

I have a stock Mini 8ight T I would like to install the Leopard in. Will the stock ESC push it ok until I purchase a new ESC in a month or two?

Also, what gearing should I go with for stock ESC and the Leopard motor using 2S lipo batteries?

I'm getting a new motor because I burned up the first one. I want to make sure I don't burn this one up so quick.

Thanks in advance.

Just an fyi, please look for an existing thread for questions about a vehicle, rather than post 3 threads asking the same thing, & the reason your first attempt didn't show is because your fist 10 posts have to be approved by the mods before the system will allow you to post without restriction(& you'll also be able to post links once you get there). It's something we had to implement to curb the amount of spammers who began hitting RC Tech with junk that NO ONE needs. And on your post here being added to this existing thread, this is really where you'll have the best chance of getting the answers you're looking for...
