Maybe not but it's the only carbon fiber kemora ever made. If tamiya can charge the prices they do for the junk they make without even assembling it, a hand made one off car should bring that type of money. There is over $600 of parts in the car and the estimated 40 hours for design to build, I think that's actually a screaming deal. Now would someone pay that type of money for a 2lbs 12 inch piece of hand made art? Ill let ya know if that day ever comes. In all reality my post was kind of a joke, I know that's a ridiculous price but it is a ridiculous car. Come to my neck of the woods my non cup car will eat anything you bring alive or dead!

Hi, I'm Marc from Holland
Last Friday I bought the Kalahari. Untill now I only flew planes (FPV) But, sometimes the weather is against us. And I wanted something for those days too.
Read 3/4 of this thread.
I drove it stock, right out of the box with 2S and 3S lipo (wich didn't fit in well) from my planes. Sure enough the next day the first spurgear was gone. Luckely I found the "how to" video and I replaced the spurgear. Used the trick with the post-it paper to adjust pinion/spur gear. This spurgear lasts untill now. Use it in a forest (sand) and it is clear that the stock pinion is rubbish. It wears of like crazy. I already ordered a better one, but have to wait for it a few days. Keep driving though, still have another spare gear :P
The first gear
Reparing
This is the pinion after three days and some 15 lipo's. Already the second spurgear is starting to wear and making sounds. You can see metal from the pinion sticking to the spurgear.
I couldn't fit in my lipo's. On some occasions these lipo's got lose and damaged one of the rear shock absorbers. So I replaced the ESC to the lipo compartment (I read somebode else also did that). And placed the lipo on top. Fixated it with velcro. Works perfect, you can throw the car around, lipo won't come of. I've used it with a 3000mAh lipo now.
This is a brand-new lipo, the one I used had a strip of velcro to it as special reinforment
What a fun car. And to my surprise I like working on it, just I like working on my planes. Altough I hope that I won't only be working :P
I already put a little FPV cam on it and an immersion RC Tx. That's nice to, but a bit shakey. I can easely take the FPV of for some rough driving in the forest

Spur gear problems
I would switch to a Robinson racing 58 tooth hardened steel spur gear and remember if you go one hardened steel you HAVE to go hardened steel on both pinion and spur. I would recommend the 18 tooth and pay attention to pitch I find either works well but the pinion and spur must be the same. I would also recommend getting a cover to keep debris more specifically sand and small rocks out of the gear mesh. The one off the mini 8ight works well but may require modification. As for your battery setup I would think that would make the car very top heavy therefore unpredictable in a corner and subject to flipping the car. The Venom 1300 3s Lipo is a good fit but with just a little modification to the battery posts and a few spacers you can fit up to a 2200mah 3s Lipo. In my own experience any discharge rate over 25 on 3s is just too much for the stock esc as long as your new esc has a higher amperage rating you should be ok. Hope this helps

Kalahari Land Rover Range Rover Trail Truck
I am building a Trail truck so I can ride with the crawler guys and I am doing it with the Kalahari hope to inspire others. My question is does the Losi Mini 8's 48 pitch 60T Hardened steel Spur Gear fit in the Kalahari? it will save me from stripping spur gears even after switching out my Pinion gear to a better quality one. What spur should I go with for crawling Steel Main Gear 48p 58t, Steel Main Gear 48p 56t not sure what would be better also I was thinking would slowing down the Kalahari help trail wise or am I fine because it seems to crawl great but has way to much speed and I crash bad if I get trigger happy. Also trying to avoid burning out my motor.I will update every one on the spur cover I am designing.I am molding my own.

Hey anyone have any clue how to solve an issue I have 3 bolts on my Kalahari just spin and dont unscrew the hobby store guy I was with couldn't figure out a solution either and was at a loss, its in a spot where I would later on need them removed? what can I do? its the 3 screws on that long plate over the drive shaft or what ever that connects the axles together in the center to make it 4 wheel drive?

Hello Kemora users,
This is a very long thread, and I have a new Vaterra Kemora in the box. Can anyone clearly list the "must" need hop ups for me? Nothing for bling, just basic durability.
In particular, which pinion upgrade is needed? Which oil weight should I buy...and is a dust cover absolutely essential? Did I miss anything? Thank you!

I did not have any luck with dust cover, driving on dirt/pebbles.
In the end I switched to steel spur and pinion, they are noisy, at first they ate each other (no matter how I tried to set the mesh), now they seem relatively happy. Normally they should be greased, but since they are not protected from dust...
Steel spur is 48p, so I also got a 2mm to 3.17mm adapter to use normal 3.17mm 48p steel pinions.
I've come to the conclusion that if you want to run on dirt, get a chassis with closed transmission.

This should help.

You could change the plastic hexes to aluminum ones.

I use 30wt oil for shocks. Have different springs. Soft, mid and hard. You can setup your car based on the surface you´re gonna run.
Hope that helps.

Think I'm selling my Kalihari.
Its practically new with a few scratches on body. Has lipo conversion. Will include a 2s battery. Also has a set of aftermarket tires n rims.
Has hardened pinion and fresh spur gear.
I have a Vaterra body too as I did a conversion.
Asking 160 shipped.
Fun car just don't have time to play with it.
