El Cheapo Brushless Questions
My sons have two Exceed Magnet trucks. Last year, we ran the stock motors with 1100 and 1200 MAh batteries. This year, I went with brushless motors and 2200 MAh 2S -Li-Po's. I have the charging and low voltage things figured out, but the problem that we're running into is with the motors/ESC's (I think). One truck is running a Toro 25A micro ESC and 5200 KV motor. That one went like a raped ape until the housing separated, now it's dead in the water. The other one is running a Tacon 5200KV motor, and a Hobbywing 25A ESC. This one has been giving me ALL KINDS of trouble. It stutters (cogs?), shuts down, and gets to over 200*!!! (Which is why I think it's shutting down). The gearing for these trucks is stock, and I have had to order new tires, but I stayed with the same diameter as stock.
What can I do to get the Tacon motor truck to run correctly?
Are the Li-Po's too much for the trucks? Do I need to change gearing? And, how in the world can I keep the Toro from coming apart?

Try a few drops of Loctite to keep the Toro motor from coming apart. I am surprised to hear about problems with a Tacon/HW combo, those are some of the best in the business. Bad cogging will certainly heat things up fast, and that will cause the shutting down to protect itself from cooking. Like the previous reply I recommend checking that the truck rolls free without the motor installed, and make sure the motor/esc/battery connectors are all in good shape. These are the most common causes for cogging.

if you are still running the stock gearing i would guess thats causing your heat issue. drop down a couple teeth on your pinion. you will lose top end but gain torque and the brushless/lipo setup will still be plenty fast
