Just a quick MERV VXL question
So I'm planning on upgrading to lipo soon so ill be running on 2s-3s and I have a question if I buy the 3s pack can it be run offroad? Or will it have to be onroad with this pinion and what will be 3s top speed without pinion Thanks!
(it says dual batteries but on the website it says 3s is 50+? I'm confused

you can run off road with 3s just gear it really low, watch your temps, and have it sitting up higher like, adjust your preloaders, or if you have adjustable pushrods get it up a little higher, and it really depends on what kinda off road your talking here. short grass, packed dirt, things like that are ok, but i would go with a 19t 55 spur with a 3s for off road, maybe 19/50 and go from there watching your temps, if you dont have a temp gun get one, untill then you should be able to put a drop of water on the motor and if it bounces off like a bouncy ball your way to hot..
in short, 3s is really for high speed runs not off road, even then on road, you got to gear it really low most people without fans and heat sinks cant get 23/50 gears on 3s and have it run more than 2 speed runs..

So 2s for offroad? I'm guessing that'll go 35-40?

2S is plenty of power for the merv. I don't know why Traxxas says you can use 3S or the NiMh in series, that is just plain wrong. Maybe in the rally on a smooth surface it would be ok, but other than that it is a bad idea. I killed a brand new ESC after just one 3S cycle and one NiMh series cycle, and that was driving conservatively as it was a new vehicle. If you get on the throttle at any speed with a 3S you will lose control. With a 2S it will still do wheelies below 15mph, it will easily do 40mph, you can actually control it, and most importantly it won't fry your electronics.
