Losi 1/16 Mini SCT

It's nice to see other people have these trucks too !
I bought one a few weeks ago on a whim and its great on the street and around the house, but find its waaaay too slippery at the track. (Maybe I just can't drive ? )
I'm actually looking for softer tyres !
Going to try a set of stock Mini Inferno tyres on it.
Cuts great donughts tho !
So far havent had any servo issues, but not been too hard on it either.
Only running on the stock NiMH pack.
Is there much to be gained by going 2s lipo ?

Glad to finally find other Losi 1/16 SCT owners here with useful information.
I'm from Singapore and intend to get this truck for my birthday this weekend. Options here are really limited (those of you in the USA are so blessed!), and so far this is the only truck that I like and that suits my noob budget. (I had wanted the Mini DT, but didn't want to spend so much money and time to make it brushless--and still not be 2.4G.) So why not just get this SCT--it has everything.
A lot of people ask why Losi didn't make this SCT a 4WD. Well the simple answer to that if you've watched their promotional video on YouTube is that the real life Sean Geiser Readylift truck that this RC truck is based/licensed on is a 2WD. So they are just being true to the 'original'. (I'm sure they have other reasons/excuses, like cost perhaps.)
I understand that one of the weaknesses of this truck is it's tires going bald fast and the unavailability of better alternatives. Well, I saw a video on YouTube and one guy had this comment: "I love my Mini-SCT, you can get the 1.55 RC4WD wheels to fit with Hex adapters, they work and look excellent. A great truck for sure."
Hope this helps. Happy racing and bashing.

Here is an option for a different tire that provides more grip. It is softer than the stock tire which will wear faster on the street, but we found it to be much better than the stock tire on dirt.

Thanks Keith.
btw, what's the specs of the original tires? Is 1.9", 2.2"?
Anyone know of more long-lasting tires that will fit the stock rims?

DWJL--The meaasurements on the tire are 1.9 on the inside and 1.5 on the outside. In testing I ran some Mini Slash tires on the Mini SCT wheels with success. That is a harder/longer lasting tire that could work for you.

Hmmm for some reason, I can't seem to charge the stock batt. My first charge was 3 hrs as advised in the manual. But I don't think it was charged and that for my first run I was simply running the truck on whatever charge there was from the box.
My second charge was 6 hours as advised in the manual. But the batt ran out within a minute.
I don't think it's charging at all coz the charger and the batt don't even feel warm throughout but are cool! Is this a charger fault or batt fault?
Not really a big deal to me coz I intend to go lipo.

Glad to see this thread is still active. I am just now picking up a partial MSCT. No electronics, tires or body. I plan on pulling the electronics off of my Mini Desert Truck to complete it.
Would the Mini Desert Truck tires fit? This would be temporary until I can pick up some real MSCT tire/wheels.
I have already ordered a body.
Also the electronics are the Castle Sidewinder Micro and the 6800kv motor.
Is this motor overkill?

The tires on my Mini Desert are using the standard Mini-T wheels but I mounted the AE RC18MT tires. They are quite a bit taller then the standard Mini-T tires.
What is the outside diameter of the Stock MSCT tires?
The outside of the RC18MT tires are about 2 1/2 inches.

Well I got the MSCT in the mail. It was missing the tires, body and electronics like expected. The rear end of the truck was completely dismantled. A bit of a puzzle but I used the Losi MSCT exploded view to figure it out.
Once I put is back together I found that the motor cover was missing and the front ladder that attaches to the front skid. Unfortunately I can't just order the front ladder, it comes as a front and rear set. Other then that it is almost ready to go.
I am going to start installing the electronics from my Mini Desert Truck. I did mount the tires though and they look close to the original tires. Will post a pic later. I will probably start a new thread.

This is a noob question, so pls pardon my ignorance:
What do the shock spacers do? Make the shocks more 'stiff'?
I noticed that the front shocks have one spacer added but not the rear ones. Why is that so? What's the advantage of a stiffer shock over a softer one?
Also, do adding spacers to the shocks affect the ride height? No, right?
How then do I adjust the ride height, but putting the shocks into the alternative holes to make them more vertical (hence taller) than slanted?
Thanks for the help.

Am thinking of raising the rear by one or two spacers, will that adversely affect performance in any way, like more flip overs?

Steering servo tutorial, how I did it.
Just messing with the truck in the house and the front yard after work I decided I needed a new steering servo. My servo did not break but it is terribly slow and seemed a little weak. I had a spare HS65 from one of my planes so I used that, I love this little powerhouse of a servo. I saw a post from seabass17 about using the ae rc18t servo saver for Hitec as a drop in solution so that's what I did. The stock Losi ball joint screwed into the ae arm and everything bolted/snapped right up. There are 2 holes on the ae arm, I used the closer hole because the farther hole gave too much throw and had to be dialed down, this way I get more useable torque from mechanical advantage and can still get max throw. The 65 was not a complete drop in fit, it took a little massaging to get it to fit but nothing too crazy. The 65 is 2 hairs wider than stock so I filed out the servo hole ever so slightly into the screw posts and filed a notch so the servo wire would fit through. I also had to trim the rubber grommet off of the servo case around the wire so the servo could slide in straight because it won't fit in at an angle. All of 10 minutes were spent on this upgrade (took longer to write this) and now the truck has sharp steering and a strong servo. I tossed the stocker in the tool box for a spare and if I ever need it in a pinch the swap should take 30 seconds.

Well at least I hope it is !
My steering servo has just died and just orderd a HS-65MG and the Losi servo saver (LOSB1226)
Will report back about the saver when it arrives.

Just took it out of town a few weeks ago after not running it for a while. I forget how much fun this little truck is. Everyone that sees it loves it. I'm addicted to the 3s speed and now need a 4th set of tires. I just read about the Traxxas Slash tire mod(?) and think that is the way to go. Anyone have both this and the Slash? I'm curious to know how they compare, besides the 2wd v. 4wd.

Well it looks like the HS65 and the Losi saver for the HS55 are a no go
They are a completly different size !
Looks like I'll be looking for the RC18 saver that you used...
In the mean time i'll try and get it working without a saver and just be kind
So if anyone needs a servo saver for a HS55....
(they are only a few bucks anyway)
