Thinking about trying my hand at off road. I have a rc18t Factory team. Is there anything special I should do to it to make it competitive in stock?
Right now its stock. Any special tires? Foam or Rubber?
I really have no idea what to do with this thing. Any help would be great.
Thanks
Chris
This is indoor offroad carpet w jumps.....
For stock racing you must use rubber tires.
You can try your stock pins....
Rubber tires want to flex and bite the carpet causing traction rolling. You want firm foams for inside the tires. Trinity makes/made them or you can make your own using 1/12 foam donuts.
You can also CA glue the sidewalls of your tires.
The next thing you want to do is to firm up your suspension. I would get a selection of springs and a few shock oils to try. 50w 70w
Next you have to adjust your diffs. This is where you want the rear to slip more than the front. If you have more grip in the rear on throttle the truck squats the front end raises and you lose steering.....you can also adjust the squat w shocks but remember your jumping the truck and you also need good dampening. There are several tricks to learn. Your best bet would be to find a track and start practicing/tuning....Im sure the racers at the track will help you w a set up.....
I got official approval from the Misses today so I'm in for sure. I'll be rollin down with Tom Loranger Friday morning.
Looking forward to it.
One small question.......I don't really have anything onroad except for a Vendetta TC. Can I run that in touring open or is there a 150mm wheelebase limit? I know many of the M18 guys are put off by the larger car, but those of you who attended last years onroad Nats know I'm no threat in that class.
That's great that you can come down. Yes the Vendetta TC will be legal for the Open Touring Class since it was alowed at Nats'. That being said, if you can borrow an M18 from Bermbuster you would be more competitive.

If you have the Factory Team RC18T and plan on running the Stock class, like Berm said, running a firm insert in your rubber tires is a must. There is a local guy at Kranzels who has come out with the best light weight extra firm foam inserts I have ever seen. He just posted earlier that he should be making the event, and his user name is 18racer. I would get with him about getting some inserts, and what rubber tires they are using. Hope to see you there.

So Tim, the only restrictions for stock class (truck offroad) are....
1) NiMH 6 Cell
2) Handout Motor
3) Rubber tires
Is that correct? I just want to be prepered. I hate scramblin for parts at the last minute.
Thanks.
I am still going over all the rules from last year and deciding what if any will be changed. You are correct about the Motor and batteries for the 4wd Stock Stadium class, not sure if I will limit it to rubber tires. Although most of your fast guys run rubber tires with the type of true stadium style jumps that we will be building. The rubber tires just seem to handle the jumps better than foams do.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Tim, if you can find out about those tires, that would be great.
Is the Associated spring set good enough or is there something better?
We don't have anywhere close to practice micro off road. Have to wait for the ECC.
The AE spring set is all you need.....you will most likely use the gold and blue because of the larger jumps...but have silvers also just in case they work....
I think the losi street tires with hard foam inserts will be the tire of choice...if you can't find hard foam then at least get the trinity blue foam....they work well.........if you use the AE tires you need to grind down the nubs to slicks and then sauce the tires during each run.....you may also have to glue the side walls on the fronts to help keep it from traction rolling on you......We will help you out at the track.....all you got to do is ask.....

I just wanted to say that if you guys have not been hearing much from me the last several days, it's because I am sick as a dog! I have four kids, so the chances that I was going to escape getting the flu with those kids coughing everywhere around the house bringing home anything and everything they get from school was between slim and none. I have the official classes and their sponsors, and the registration forms will hopefully be emailed to Mimi at "The Track" later tonight so that she can post it on her website. I promise I should have more details for you in the next couple days.
P.S. Go Yankees!!!!! World Series Title 27 coming!!! Yes that's right all you guys from Madness area, I'm a born and bread Yankees fan. Ask John from TSR, we always pick on each other when the Yanks' and Bo sox play each other.
Thank You,

Does anyone know where I can get some firm foam inserts for the rc18t? It seams that trinity has discontinued there firm foam inserts. I'm more of an on road racer but wanted to try some off road carpet racing with the rc18t. I'll be racing on ozite w/rubber street tires (stock class) and after reading some posts on this thread, I realized that the firm foam inserts would be better suited than the soft inserts. Any help would be appreciated.
Also, what should my ride height be front and rear, and what weight shock oil front and rear for off road carpet racing?

set your ride height so the dogbone/cvd shafts are level w the outdrive.
As for shock oil weights what batteries are you using? 6 2/3 a cells or a small lipo? That will determine how heavy a oil you will use. If I remember right I used 70w front and 50w rear blue springs up front gold in the rear...

Thanks for the ride height answer.....that makes good sense, I should have figured that one out myself, I must have been in left field on that one. LOL
I race with a 1320 7.4 lipo. So you're saying, the lighter the battery, the lighter the oil?

Try ebay. I searched trinty inserts and found a set. Not sure if its what your looking for or not. There blue and the description said they fit rc18 and mini t tires.
Also, when you say losi street tire, do you mean the street meats?
Should I run narrows up front or wides all around?
