Default 1/18th Breakouts Class - Thoughts?

Was suggested to possible help with local interest. That and it was decided we are going too fast for many, that or we need a motor rule. The issue that we cant do motor rules as we are trying to be inclusive to allow RTR and others to run with us on our carpet track. Most of us run sedans of M18, Exo, or Dtx variety. So a truck with say a 370 closed endbell motor would be at a disadvantage.

Hence, the idea instead of possible going Breakout to build the class. After a certain point than we could separate out a mod version.

Basic idea of a Breakout is that you run based on consistency. Your giving a target lap time, and the idea is to get as close as possible to that time, without going faster. The one who has the most consistent and closest times to the limit wins. I believe. Im still unsure of the details.

Thoughts?

.in Dirty Jerzey we call it Bracket racing.....
It works real well.
What makes it work so well is you must drive to your ability if you get too many laps you lose......It teaches you to drive more consistent.
The kool thing is everyone has a handicap and anyone can win....

The trick is to get the correct handicap....
If your honest you know how many laps your good for on a particular layout. The race director will know by previous results so sandbagging becomes very difficult.

I like the concept, especially if you have a hard time getting enough similar car/motor combos to build full classes.

I've thought of trying a similar idea, keep the cars in the stock/N00b class until they can hit a certain number of laps, then pop them up to the mod/expert class. I could never figure out how to prevent sandbagging though, for those who really want to win and not run with the big boys.

So what happens if someone buys a Caster with a brushless system? Isn't that unfair going the other way?

I guess when I re read it, then it wouldn't matter. I was just thinking that a person would be ahead of the game with the rtr with the 25 amp brushless set up. If you go by times, then you could do whatever.

We did this with our outdoor class last year...It kept the faster guys out and made for some close racing....the tough part is setting a good breakout time....it needs to be fast enough to where the time is just under what a perfect line ran would time out....

Breakout rules are a blast......we ran it in our micro touring class so it didn't matter if you had a high dollar car or a rtr....the set time was all that mattered and being consistent made for a lot of fun racing.....a lot of times guys that were running in third and fourth place would win in the end because the front two would race a little hard on the last few laps because they still wanted to be the first across the line but would forget about the breakout rule......I like it myself

It is all my fault.

I wanted to run a RC18t Stock with Foams or a XrayM18 with a Mamba Brushless and my son drive the other.

I think the Bracket rule will make it funner
