I didn't use the Tekin, I used the SpeedPassion system.

I know you got the SP for your M18, and I assume thats the one your complianing about. Im just saying, I thought I saw an RS in your 18R in the pics youve posted, and that is a sensorless operation speedo (unless you enabled sensored only in a hotwire), meaning it only uses sensors for start up (pretty much only the 1st touch of the trigger), and then runs sensorless, and im pretty sure that ESC hasnt been any issue for you. Basically, sensored vs sensorless is a non issue past start up, assuming you have a good ESC. Can''t say I didnt tell you get the Castle

I have only ever run the RS in sensored only mode.

Any particular reason for that? Just out of curiosity, because normally you only do that to get a ton of timing advance for stock/spec classes. For mod, pretty much everyone runs dual mode, because you dont need all the timing advance. You should try it sometime, you may be suprised at how smooth it really is I know all the 1/10 guys who run dual the only issue they have is not quite enough timing in 17.5/13.5 classes, nothing about lack of smoothness

I use the RS in the 18R. I use KO for 1/10th. I will tinker around with the RS and see how the Mongoose responds with dual mode operation.

To sum up that last post, next time you run your 18R, try dual mode, and then see what sensorless operation is really about dont knock it till youve tried it. And find someone who will let you borrow a Castle ESC (updated of course) and then try your M18 again. If you were in my area, id let you run one of mine, because im that confidant its that much better than what you have. The only thing ive expereinced on my cars was the ocassional roll backwards on the start that will inevitably happen with SL. No power surges. No lumpy throttle. Just smooth, overpowered fun

Don't knock what until I have tried it? I was just relaying my experiences. I have driven two Castle equipped 18Rs at a track in Huntington Park, CA., and they were difficult to drive. One of them was plain terrible while the other was drivable but not like my sensored system. Perhaps Spawn_X can chime in. I don't know how much he tinkered with his Castle system, nor do I know how current the software was that he was using.

To each his own I suppose!

Running dual mode on your RS. Even on another thread in here, Randy Pike from Tekin strongly suggested runnning dual mode and not sensored only with the novak micro motors, because you dont need the timing advance sensored only provides.

The older firmware was a bit choppy(im talking like 1.06 and back), but in my M18 and my recoil on 1.20, aside from startup, those sensorless setups are just as smooth as the RS in my TC5X (patiently waiting on mamba max pro ). They are mod, so the car is a bit tricky to drive compared to a spec class, but I cant blame it on a jumpy throttle.

I am running 15 degrees of boost and Novak's motors have 15 to 20 degrees of timing advance.

Like I said, I will try dual mode and see if there are any performance gains. I will be racing next Saturday and may head out to practice setups prior to race day.

Just an FYI 15* of boost should be around 50 in dual mode timing

No problem

In sensored mode, the ESC boost is actual degrees timing, and motor timing must be taken into consideration. In dual mode, the timing advance number is the % of 30* advance, and motor timing is irrelevant, as the sensors arent used and all the timing advance is done in the ESC

I drove a 18R with a Mamba again today and this one ran very well. I couldn't tell a difference between the Mamba and my Novak (Except for torque and speed). The motor ran smoothly and I was impressed. This Mamba was set up very well and drove like no other that I have experienced.

What KV was that 18 running on Lemar? You think it really ran like your sensored one?

My complaint with the novak system is the three-80 motors seem to let in a lot of dirt. I had a bash session with my t, and afterwards there was dirt inside the motor. I can't say I experienced this with my castle
