Default 1/18 Raminator Servo Upgrade Help

I am replacing the stock set of servo's with Hitec HS-55 servos. I know the metal gear set would have been better, but could not see forking out $60 on them for my young son's truck.

As you can see from the pic, I got the servo's installed. I got the Team Losi Hitec HS-55 Servo Savers.

1. Is this servo saver the correct choice for this application? Or is the Associated set the better route?
2. If the Losi servo saver is OK, some of the chassis side rails would need to be dremeled to make room for the servo saver to rotate correctly?
3. With this servo saver set, there is no place for the original connecting rod? Will the steering function correctly without it?

Thanks
