Talking Official Toppow AAA 700mah 30C Battery Thread

Hey guys if you haven't tried the new Toppow AAA 700mah 30C High Output battery yet then you are missing out on some wild action! The batteries are wickedly fast!

Toppow made these batteries specially for the Mini and Micro market. First thought is the Min-Z cars. I put them into my Mini-Z and thought I just learned what racers mean by PUNCH! Wow, these things powered my stock MR02LM like I have never seen before. But I had nothing to compare it at the warehouse so I took the batteries to our Phoenix club race. Again the batteries were wild. First after charging you need to run a bit just to get some of the edge off or do 360's coming out of a turn!!! lol Okay not the best driver here, but hadn't done that before. The proof came when the other cars were on the track and mine would blow by them on the straits. These batteries have power. I gave a couple of sets to other good drivers (note I said other good drivers..) so I could get their reaction. Well it was the same.

Toppow did the job and made a battery that will make all mini and micro cars and buggys that run on AAA batteries a lot more fun and obviously faster!!!

When we charged these batteries, even though the rating was 700mah they charged closer to 740mah. When we put the batteries on turbo matchers the numbers were consistently higher than all competitive brands. When we find a driver for some upcoming mini/micro events and have them use these batteries, Toppow will rock the racing world. If you want to get these batteries now you can find them at www.teammarketingamerica.com. TMA is the sole agent and importer for the Toppow line of Ni-mh and Lipoi batteries. Their banner ads can be seen on RC Tech so you can also click on one of them and it will take you to their site.

I have included a picture??? But a picture willnot say the thousand words you will say after yout try these batteries. Have fun and good racing!

Welcome to Toppow's World of Speed and Power!

what happened to the other non official thread????
Im not here to bash or beat on anyone. These cells maybe good but
you need some real results from real racers. There is a big mini z race coming up in SC. It is a PN World cup Regional. Next there is a big one in NYC. An Atomic World cup Regional.....
Get your 700 aaas at those races and if they perform you will have a solid
base to judge them......

Thanks for writing. This is to rimind everyone this is not a basher thread, this is an Information thread. We lost the other thread to anwser your question about that.

In regard to the batteries you are right in saying let me see what they do on the track. However only partially correct. Although we are looking for a driver that will take our batteries to some of these upcoming events (we presently sponsor drivers for other manufacturers products in RC) after 28 years in the RC I know that winning with a top driver does not make a quality product. True it helps having a good product but it doesn't make it the best. It just makes it a product driven by the best driver(s). There are many drivers that can take the second or third best motor, battery, or? and win with them. Or the top driver has the best product and makes one mistake at the end gets passed and resorts to second. Was that the product's doing in either of those scenarios? Of course not. But we do believe in the adage he who wins on Sunday sells on Monday.

There are other ways to tell the quality. First starts with a manufacturer who knows how to build batteries and build them with a special purpose. These are not OEM batteries. Toppow is the manufacture and OEM's for other top brands. These batteries are built for full capacity and high output needed for racing.

Then there are the numbers from the matching machines that are reliable in identifying production from batteries. It takes several days of going on the machines to get the consistent numbers, but obviously these are very reliable. All batteries are determined in quality by Turbomatcher machines (or other types of machines that give production numbers) and this is how race packs are made up for racers and yes the sponsored driver!

We know racers like to see the batteries perform in the large events. We know other guys just want a fast batteries. So presently we are looking for a driver to represent the Toppow Batteries at upcoming events. This will help the racer choose his next set. And we have the best manufacturer and testing on our batteries to know we represent quality with speed and power! This is for the guys that just want a fast battery. So to answer your question, we will be at some upcoming events, but if you wish to invest $10.99 in a four pack, feel confident you are going to enjoy the results!

tell us about how we can charge/discharge these 30c cells....
how many amps can they take???
will they vent???
what temp can they handle???

I have been into mini z s for a long time and I have seen aaa cells come and go....

how many cycles before these cells go flat???

Your standard packs are $11 but your matched packs are $26....
show us some real numbers....
when you talk the talk walk the walk

I have been involved in RC for 30 something years....

Thank you for writing and your interest in Toppow's 700mah 30C cells. I am happy to see that you have been in the hobby a long time and asked the right questions. Some answers I can give and some I will need help from my engineers from the factory. But I can tell you some basics up front that I am sure you know but didn't mention. Each battery cell is different from the other. You can run one set against another, and even if the one manufacturer says theirs is a high performer, your set could possibly not perform close as it was described. Obviously the reason for the matched packs and pricing. These batteries are matched in average voltage output and seconds they run (amd some other facts we get in test) at a 5amp discharge we set as our base. Mini-z's as an example draw on an average run 1.2amp. It can use up to 7amp in burst, but lower amp use is normal and of course there are the crashes. Larger demands can be needed by other types of cars or buggys. So we felt 5amp discharge for AAA's was a good base to measure our batteries. I don't wish to give a lot of information out either because some may interpet the figures incorrectly or measure wives tales against facts. This starts a can of worms that I don't want to get into. So as I mentioned too many facts creates bashing and this forum is for information, and racers to report their fun and successes.

It is recommended to charge at .7A. Our test we charge at 1A. If you are looking for run times on a mini-z with an average draw 1.2A or 1200mah which is .5 per minute with our 700mah it will give you a run time of 35 minutes. No one should purchase our batteries if you are looking for run times. Toppow Batteries are for racing heats and mains. The batteries selected for being matched have already been through testing of their numbers and will have final numbers at the selected 5amp discharge of 480 to 530 sec run times. That is 8 minutes worth of run time at a higher draw then used for almost any car that uses AAA batteries. If you need more because the car draws more you will need to go Lithium. Just to handle what someone would say when giving those numbers out. The average voltage a battery gives during the run time is important as well. So as mentioned we match voltage and seconds for our matched cells. I wish to mention that we go through 1000's of batteies and all are tested. Three bins are set up. First is the high performers, second is the regular performers, and third is too low performers. Here is the reason. As I mentioned above you could get a set of 4 cells that will not perform as good as a known lesser performer cells. It can be three are good and one is bad. Not on purpose by any manufacturer but this is reality. One guy buys a pack of xxx batteries and screams how well they perform. His friend buys a similar pack and his car is now slower. We want to avoid this situation totally with Toppow Batteries. Although the manufacturer has their test, we test every battery (three times on matcher, once per day) and use the third day's numbers to separate the cells. The packs of four you purchase that are not matched are still very close in performance. When you purchase a pack of Toppow 700mah 30C batteries you will scream with joy. When your friend goes to purchase a similar pack he too will have the same result. That is our goal and why we take all this time to put these packs together. Matched cells go through a longer process so we can lower IR for higher average voltage. When you go to purchase cells there are no numbers from test or graphs. You go and try them out. This is all we are asking.

A couple questions asked were good but I wish to check before I answer to make sure. We have charged cells at different rates and got result numbers and have not had any batteries vent.(yet?) But where is the temp, where is the charge level for that little extra that will give more even if it cuts cycle life, I don't know but will find out for you.

Have Fun! On vacation for a week, be back on May 24th! May try to read/write during vaction if wife allows. But the rules have already been set. You married racers know what I am talking about. lol

For those that have been purchasing our batteries we thank you and hope the wow factor has hit as many of you that have written to us.

I did want to mention something we forgot earlier. We test our cells on a higher discharge rate because of the new open class in the Mini-Z's and also because of other RC venues that use these cells. We wanted to see what the battery cells will give and hold in volts throughout the discharge cycle. Our cells in the regular packs will average 1.14V to 1.16V throughout the 5amp discharge. Of course these numbers are after 3 days of being tested with the last day being the final day and then separation. Battery cells with 1.13V or less, commonly found in most packs are not used. Cells with 1.17 to 1.19 are conditioned and tested for the matched packs and those with average numbers of 1.18V to 1.20V will be found in our matched packs.

Have fun and we from Toppow hope we can add to your fun!

I wanted to give a bit more information about the Toppow 700mah 30C AAA Racing cells. This will help the people that have purchased our batteries get the most out of them in regards to performance.

First let me say this so we all have an understanding about the Toppow AAA cells. These batteries are true 30C cells. There are "no" batteries made in China(where most all of the cells are made, not shipped from, but made) that are also 30C other than Toppow. There are 20C cells(2.2amp charge 15A discharge Discharge ratio 95% capacity 20C / 4.3A Charge 15A Discharge Discharge ratio 90% Capacity 20C) AAA batteries produced. Toppow Batteries are 30C (5.3A Charge 20A Discharge, Discharge Ratio 70% Capacity 30C) due to the chemical compound formulation of these cells. As mentioned these cells are specifically made for racing and high output. They can handle higher amp charges and actually need them to activate the chemical formulation of the batteries for better performance. Please note, what we suggest below is for Toppow Batteries only and this would cause lower life cycle aqnd/or would ruin other manufacturer's batteries if handled similarly.

Toppow 700mah 30C battery can be charge at 1 amp with 10amp discharge rate for those that would like to have excellent performance and long life cycles. For the customers that wish to race the cells we reccomend that the charge be 2amp with 10amp discharge. This will activate these cells to give the racer a high end performance level. We recommend the cell be charged as suggested and be used once per day. However if you are low in the number of packs you have to race you may find these batteries will give the same performance for two heats at 5 minutes each at the same level of performance with very little power loss. Then take care of them as suggested and used the following day. I have found when someone tried to "top off" the batteries to run the second time, the heat generated did not help the performance of the battery. Actually it was the reverse.

For the more aggressive racer a 3A charge with a 15A discharge system can be used. The 3 amp charge will activate the battery to top level of performance and can be done only with Toppow Cells due to the chemical formulation of these cells. Please do not follow this pattern with 20C cells or any other cell you have.

We reccomend the 2amp charge with the 10amp discharge for our racing customers.

I have done a test where we charge one set of batteries at 1A, one set at 2A, and the last set at 3A charge. I ran each battery pack in the same car to compare the performance of each pack charged as described. We ran the pack in the cars for a minimum of 10 minutes each, and some cases longer. At the end of the 30 minutes, although my eyes were in a state of blurr, I did have the track dialed. lol I can honestly say that at the 1amp charge the cells are faster than what is found in the market today. They are wicked fast plus a lot of fun. The racer will enjoy the performance from the 2A charge and I had a hard time telling if the 3A charge made a difference over the 2A charge. What happens I found was I got use to the quick speed these batteries deliver, and also got the track dialed so my driving improved as well. The track is at our warehouse and I don't have a timer system but will find out better the difference when I go to our club race and try the same there.

I would say now for the racers, the 2A charge with a 10A discharge is the way to go with the Toppow 700mah 30C AAA Batteries for more fun than one can have with their clothes on!

Are you still carrying these cells? Do you have a driver running them at the PN race in NY? Are they still available at the ealier mentioned price of 7.99 for an unmatched pack? Are matched packs still available?

Thanks

There are several racers using them.....
Me and my son have a few packs and we are fighting over who gets to use them....
They hold constant voltage over the 8 minute races......The cars dont lose any speed and Im impressed.....
