Default Vendetta / Motor / ESC question...

So i got a rolling chasis from a friend, and started looking through the scrap box.

The electronics are as followed:

Receiver: DuraTrax RX-100 AM 2-Chan Receiver
ESC: Futaba MC 230 CR Fet Speed controller

Motors (so far they have all died):
Frenzy 270sk from a losi mini lst
AE Super 370 motor, got it for $11 from LHS...

2200mah 2s Lipo 7.4v
Spur: 48T
Pinion: 17T

It runs great when it runs, but usually get a hot, and then when i go to try it again (after a recharge so the car has cooled down) nothing. I has the LHS check the frenzy and they said it didnt turn over, and now the AE engine is doing the samething.

The esc im using Futaba MC230CR (http://www.futaba-rc.com/radioaccys/futm0922.html) came from a scrapped TC3 i got from a friend. It works in the TC3 but that is a larger scale... is this ESC frying the motor by just being for the wrong scale car?

Is there a motor i can put in that will not fry (as quickly) or does the ESC need to be changed in order to use such a small motor?
Why am I frying

The motors you are using are undersized. A vendetta needs a 400 sized motor.
Get a VX3 (made for the detta)
There are others...Atomic makes one (open endbell)

If you dont want the motors to burn up you have to check temps and gear down....keep a brushed motor under 150 degrees....

You are also overgeared, drop the pinion by a few teeth.

It is not the lipo cooking your motors it is the temps they go to from being geared too high....

I see your going to gear down so when you do after a 5 min run check your motor temp...if its cool you can gear up....
Just remember that a few things besides gearing will effect temps...
tires (traction) running surface and the mechanical set up of the vendetta
gear mesh, bearing condition and diff tension....

Yea i just did an overhaul on all the moving parts, and cleaned / lubed everything. I think with the stock motor geared to 15t / 45t spur it should be a decent basher.

What happens if you run 3s lipo to a motor like the VR3?

You're probably going to want to stock up on some extra motors. The VR3 will run really, really fast on a 3S, but will not last long at all. Keep a close eye on the temps of your ESC and motor.
