Default HOT HOT HOT Motor Help!!!!

Hey, I have a Reedy 17T Mini-Mod motor for my RC18T. Since the first time I ran it...it gets too hot to touch after 2 minutes of use. I used the recommended gearing of 12/60 and I also tried a 10,11,12,13, and 14 tooth pinions and the temp is the same every time. I just rebuilt the diff's, cleaned and oiled ALL the bearings, and adjusted the gear mesh many times using the "paper method". When no motor is in, the truck rolls freely and there are no obstructions anywhere. Does this motor just naturally run too hot? I checked with a temp gauge at the races last week and it was over 177* after a 5 minute race and it remained too hot to touch even 5 minutes after I turned the truck off. I burned up two sets of brushes in the last two weeks and I am ready to throw the motor in the trash...any recommendations? I will be getting a brushless setup in a month or two, but I have a race this weekend and next weekend.

Sounds like maybe you got a bad motor. 177 is not too hot, but after only 5 minutes thats a bit too much. Burning up the brushes is definitely a problem. My guess is that maybe the motor was assembled with a defect? Maybe the brush hood is not straight, or maybe the commutator is not true. I would say after 10+ minutes 177F would be okay. What is the track like? Anyone else running brushed? Stock motor worked ok?

I race on a medium size parking lot track. I also practice in a local parking lot and the same thing happens. Most of the other drivers run brushless. The stock motor gets really warm, but not as hot. I even bought a heat sink for my Mini-Mod and it still didn't help...just today I almost burned my finger on the heat sink. Can Reedy do anything if it's a bad motor?
