OMG thats Awsome hahahaah !!! xD
The sound of the screws tumbling is great LOL
I think i saw a Spur gear LOL !!!
lol, yeah, the ooooohhh is funny. Sounds as if someone just got kicked in the nether regions.
Just before the car hits, you can see it twitch to the left and straight into the barrier. It sounds like a light bulb, or a christmas ornament being dropped.
Well, not that it wouldn't be fun to do, or anything, and I certainly don't want to be a part of stifling anyone's creativity, but the mini lst's drivetrain (diffs, dogbones, and such) aren't designed to do the 2 things you're trying to do. 1; push around that much weight. 2; use that much torque to push around the increased weight. To exaggerate the point, let's say you could strap a v8 engine to a little rc car but the torque required to move the added weight, would snap the dogbones or strip the diffs before it moved an inch. In my mind "a viable option" would mean something that is at least somewhat reliable.
Don't get me wrong, you'll get some run time out of it, but it won't be long before things start to go south.
As far as both ideas that are going on here, yours and Dancomer's, in order to make them work with any degree of practicality, the vehicles will have to be modified to the point of no longer being a mini lst, or mini quake. The question is, where is the line drawn? How much modifying can you do before an object (rc car or whatever) loses it's identity?
But I like both ideas and think you guys should freakin go for it!
I gotta tell ya though I've had some pretty fast minis and 1/10 scales over the years and SHORT WHEELBASE+ULTRA HIGH SPEED=SQUIRLY @$$ed RIDE! It gets to the point that you have to roll off the throttle very carefully because any change in the vehicles attitude at those speeds is multiplied exponentially and can produce undesirable results.
ive already tried this, even with a ball diff in the center, and vicious diffs all the way around, it failed after 2 runs, even the exotek chassis failed... lol
your putting alot of money into something that isn't meant/capable of handling it to your expectations, take this as a lesson from someone who put a 1000$ into his mini lst, and failed hard, i'd stop right now bro.
Umm what exactly did you try? 540 brushed? VXL or another type of motor?
More info would be cool.
First, I apologize if you've been somehow offended, but a little speculation (forethought) really should go into a project like this. Reading this latest post, it seems to me as if you're looking for a better alternative to the mamba...? The mamba is, of course, only suitable for the miniest of minis, and naturally @ only ~120 watts, wouldn't work well in a Mini LST2. If you are just looking for a motor that would work well in the MLST2 and are not just after a novelty, I'd highly recommend one of these. Easily out-powers the mambas by almost 2x in a 380 sized can (1.325x0.96"), so they should easily fit in a stock MLST,. You could even fit 2 of them in there, and watch the thing twist itself into a pretzel if that's what you're after! Plus they work VERY well with the mamba controllers, with no significant heat issues. I really don't know why people with anything bigger than a mini-t, bother with the mamba motors at all.
Still like your idea for the novelty/outrageous cool factor of it though.
Just my 2¢
No need to apologise no offense taken.. I like the fact that you at least took the time and explained... Much appreciated.. . And thanks for the motor options.. It looks like there are motors out there that will fit on the current motor mount that will distroy the mlst.. Which is basicaly what I'm making an over powered MLST..
Hey how fast can on road cars go 1:18 scale brushless?
Nic Case went 83mph with his M18.
