chicacokenji,

i do a bit of both 1/8 offroad & 1/10 onroad with this lap counter. i use this system at home. its affordable so me and my buddies chipped in and use it for fun. i built a bridge out of a 2x4 and i use my old lap top to record times. its pretty simple. i just set out rails and dots either in the yard or street.

this is what axial told me... axial is busy with their own product line, so they gave the distribution to SK Motion. you will notice a lot of robitronic products have been designed by axial even til this day.

robitronic from what i hear has been known for their electronics and now they manufacture cars as well. i believe the instructions are in german or austrian? some type of euro language.

if speedtech does not have it in stock, u can call them to order it for you. thats how i got mines. they are well known in the rc forums.

hope this helps bro.

The Robitronic is nice but the modules are a bit on the big size for the Z's This leads you to have to either take it out of the case, run them on the outside or drill holes in the body.

The Giro-Z is ideal for Mini-Z's, as it was developed to be used with Mini-Z's specifically. The only problem is the software is a little different and the only thing that works is the SIGiro/ Zround. The cool thing about this software is that it is open source and it is freeware, the only problem is that you have to learn to use a new program all together, but once you do, it is very powerful and simple.

The I-Lap I like a lot as well. In all honesty, this is the one I wish we used in Mini-Z competition. Compatible with all the software and personals is definitely the way to go. They also work outside in the light for some reason, where the other IR systems don't. Lastly it is not expensive and the modules are compact which is very nice. A big plus is that it is US based, so you will actually have support form US headquarters, who designed the system, period. Robitronic is in Austria and sometimes, even the US distributors don't master the software. Giro-Z uses Z-round and even though Jesus Broceno, the designer of the software is awesome at giving product support, sometimes there might be a bit of a language barrier. With I-lap, all you need is to talk hardware to I-lap and software use whichever you are most familiar with.

We race every week and use the i-lap counting system with alycat software. Because of the huge range of personal transponder numbers almost everyone has at least one transponder.

I did a very extensive amount of research on this subject and hands down the I-lap system was the best.

Robitonic system is limited by the software it can use and the transponder size his larger. Some of the bodies don't have much clearance.

Giro-z system is also limited by the software and the small range of transponder numbers. 24 total i think.

core system is very limited by the software. Transponders go bad very easily and the hardware is flaky.

I-lap system can use almost every software program on the market. The size of the transponder is good for mini-zs. Gyro z is a tic smaller. Customer support is awesome. When i was setting up the system Craig worked directly with me when i had questions. The system works great on 10th scale cars as well. Inside and outside. The bridge size is expandable to 24 feet. The computer system can be 150+ feet away from the bridge. Theoretically it should be capable of 2000+ feet.

There is a group of guys that live near me that also bought the system and use it in the summer for their gas trucks. Then in the winter they use it for mini-zs.

I wrote up a detailed review on mini-zracer

hope this helps.
