I'm still going......I drove thirty seven miles to work this morning on a sheet of ICE. It's bound to be better tomarrow.
Well I was wrong about that ...drifting at 65mph is never fun....I made it there and home Sunday , but it wasn't easy. Bad luck with the toy car made for an even longer day. Thanks to Duneland for the parts and holding the race.
side note
Decatur ,In has a place called El Camino Real....great food and wicked hot sauce.... I highly recommend

Thank you to those that braved the weather and made the trip! Many decided to turn around or not even start on their way to Portage, MI. As much as I would have liked a large turn-out, I would not like it if someone were killed trying to get there. Wesley, we missed you! But, there will be another race.. See you then
Thanks to our sponsors; Castle Creations, Parma/PSE, Duratrax, and Hobby-Sports.com for all the goddies! Everyone went away with at least one door prize! Thanks to Hobby-Sports for allowing us to invade their facillity!
The trials and tribulations were many... I went up on thursday to put the finishing touches on the track and make sure my computer was set-up properly with there amb hardware. When we left, the track looked great and the computer was working great. On Friday, they had 2 bithday parties complete with Traxxas Slash trucks and apparently no supervision. My co-conspiritor, Jayson, was supposed to arrive in the afternoon to re-touch the track and put the jumps in place. A bearing failure on the trailer (containing many of the jumps) and a major storm made for an 8 hour white knuckled journey, putting him in well after closing hours. I got up a 4 am to finish throwing things in a vehicle to head up to MI. When we converged on site, we found the entire track in shambles! No sign of the original layout and much of our stuff piled up for the trucks to scrable over. I suppose it is a good thing that few people showed up for Saturdays off-road event. It took us a couple of hours to get the track back together and the jumps in place.
We opened the track for practice and got the board set to start racing.
All we had was open class buggy and Wayne George running stock. We put him in with the open and scored sepperately. Top 3 in open were; Kris Paloncak 1st (Vendetta, Mongoose powered, RATFactor Vendetta foams), Ron Trobaugh 2nd (Vendetta, Multiplex motor, RATFactor Vendetta foams, and RATFactor front shock tower), Bob Swartz 3rd (Vendetta, Golden Horizons Airpower bl motor, RATFactor Vendetta foams)
Sunday's on-road went better, as we had a track to begin with! We had a few more arrive and had classes for Open and stock 1/18 4wd and open 1/14.
Kris continued his winning ways on Sunday with TQ for both 1/18 open and 1/14 open. TQ in stock 1/18 went to Phillip Neiswinger.
The top 5 in 1/14 open were all driving Recoils equipped with RATFactor chassis. 1st went to Kris Paloncak, followed by Scott Sanders, Ron Trobaugh, Jayson Malone, Bob Swartz, Phillip Neiswinger and Jason Neff.
In 1/18 open (my fave), we had another sweep for RATFactor chassis. It was not a trouble free race though. The pole sitter (Kris), had tire issues right from the start. He made a quick change right befor the race got under way, but still had problems. This gave me (Ron) the lead on the first few corners, but a self induced mishap put me in the rear. I was the only one turning 11 second laps though, and soon made it to the front. Didn't last long though as a front drive shaft let go, turning the car into a 3 wheel drive.
Scott took the win with Kris 2nd and me 3rd.
There was a good 3 way battle up front during the early minutes of the stock race, between John Davis, Phillip Neiswinger and Eric Wells. Eric braved the elements to make the trip from Ohio. John took the win and Phillip 2nd.

who had the fastest lap time in the offroad race..
Kris had a 15.155, I had a 15.421, Jayson had a 15.735 and Bob had a 15.9.
Kris had good corner speed and very consistant on the jump sections (they were very tricky). I had the speed on the straight and sweeper, but more brain farts on the jumps. Jayson was pretty fast everywhere, but broke something.

My one question about the results: How close was the 1/18 sedan stock tq to the mod tq? with a 370 motor as "stock", it should have been very close

did the NEU make a good competitive showing,,,, or was it all mongoose systems,,,,,??
was there a ruling on 2s lipos and 3s lipos
Only Kris was running the goose. No Neu motors that I know of. I was running the Permax 4d/2 cell Lipo. So was Jayson. Kris had his fingers crossed that his goose would not go into thermal shutdown. The Permax was faster and ran cold. No need for more power, it would accellerate at the limit of flipping over backward. and that was with a WHOLE bunch of anti-squat added. Kris won through superior throttle/jump timing.

The difference was quite large. The Stock guys were restricted to 5 cell and the Losi Frenzy (which they liked by the way-we usually run the fireball for stock). TQ for open was 29 laps, stock was 23. Some of that can be chalked up to driving skill and some to pure speed. None of our faster guys were running stock. The VERY poor turn-out meant there would be far too much rushing about to run too many classes. I was running 11 and 12 second laps and the best stock was in the mid 14s.
TYREGUY- my previous post pretty much covers it. Most people decided their lives were more important than attending this race. We are very disapointed more did not show, but I would not want someone dying on the road trying to get there.
