the stock esc has a nasty habit of going throttle priority when the battery dumps. basically when the battery is low and you punch it it will shut off the rx (cut voltage to it) and follow the last instruction it received. this results in a short lived runaway while it resets itself.

installed Driven Productions 18 series Spur Pinion Gear COVER for the 18T 18R 18B 18MT today. will test tommorow, i hope this thing keeps rocks and grains out.
took the 7800 out today and dropped a 5200 in there to try to get the runtime better. gearing for the change went from a 15/60 to a 17/55 to try to salvage some speed. runtime was the same. speed was too slow (kept nailing the apexes, not in a good way) and bye bye punch. next time out i will be putting the 7800 back in there and going 13/55. yeah it gets a little warmer (140 instead of 105) but there just are no reasons i can see to keep running this slow.

After using a 78 I can totally see a 52 not being enough. But I find it odd that your runtime did not increase significantly. I see at least 5 more minutes going from a Mamba 6800 to a EZRun 5200. Then again I run small pinions on a small track, so out of 40+ minutes I guess 5 more is not that much.

yeah it baffled me too, still running nimh here and if there was any time benefit i didnt see it. only thing that wowed me was the temps. after the run i was checking motor temp with my lower lip as my finger couldnt feel the warmth. it was mentioned to goto a 19t pinion to take advantage of the motor some more but i had already lost enough punch going to a 17. i even increased the punch to setting 3 and advanced the timing to 3.75 (7.5 caused cogging) with the 7800 i was running 0 timing and level 1 punch (as seen in the vid above - 1200 nimh packs too)
have thought of going to lipo, the cells are cheap enough but replacing the 2 chargers with lipo capable ones takes the bargain and makes it expensive. In fact i have ordered 24-1400 2/3a cells from ebay to build some packs out of. the current packs are worn out and begging to be replaced.

I asked Associated tech support this same question, and they suggested TC3 #6466 down stop limiters. I had to play around with different quantities of different sizes on the front/rear to get it just right (i.e. level). They work just fine. The inner diameter is slightly larger than the shock shaft, but it doesn't cause any binding that I can tell.
Question about stock Tx.
Again today the MT started to roll on its own, like at 20% throttle. In fact in short grass it hardly would roll at all.
Now this happened before and became quite a hassle. When i took the Tx to work to play with it, it only beeped. Googling that at work I came up with a page at Associated that directed me to take the TX apart, remove the blue trigger, adjust the pot. (?) to horizontal, install NEW trigger (which I didnt have...) and it would be fine.
I did all the steps and the run-on stopped for a good few days of hard running, even with the old trigger....
SO is the trigger "Pot." slipping yet again in my trigger, is this a common ailment?
I am looking to trade out the Rustler for a couple of these so I want to be prepared!
thanks guys!
Tony
I'am assuming you already calibrated your esc to your radio. If you do may it's time to try another controller just to see if it's the controller not the ESC.
