I got my 18r yesterday and am not impressed. Hopping there are some easy fixes to my problems. First there is to much play in the steering it will not hold center, not even close. There is some side to side play in the servo saver before it makes contact to the plastic spring like thing. Thinking about taking it apart and seeing if I can improve this. Next one of the wheels is so out of balance it shakes the whole car. Finally the on/off switch is so sensitive if you knock into something it turns off. Switch still looks on but no power. Are these common problems or do I have a lemon? Anyway locally they race here Wednesday at 7:00 stock and mod class. Super stock soon to come.
The next class I want to run is F1...we are thinking of starting a class with f1's and cup racers...silver can motors and rubber tires...
haha that would b koo some of my friends are into f1 down here...i would b down for cup racer class but i dont wanna buy antother rc ima stick with micro mod and 18r spec...BTW is there races this friday or next friday?
I tried the metal spring from TheToyz and the first accident I had it was loose. It didnt spring back tight like it should have. I have had several accidents with a coil spring and it stays tight.
My son and I ran on carpet for the first time this past weekend. It was a learning experience. Chased traction all day.
Any insights would be great.
Thanks, Rob.........

Tire sauce is the key if the track allows it. The sauce on rubber tires helps keep the lint and debris from sticking to the tire- lint and debris makes the cars loose real fast. If you're running foam it shouldn't be as much a problem.

thats why i choose to run both classes, foams inthe mod class with 7000 brushless, and lipo. but the owner wont allow sauce.we are still pertty quick.they claim the fumes from the sauce give them headaches.on the servo saver slop an o ring works wonders, or the drag link, both work well.
For the steering questions....A draglink is a must no matter what servo saver you use. I use the DP draglink and an aluminum on another ride, and both improve the steering greatly. I forget the brand of servo saver springs that I used but the first time I hit something it sprang open to protect like it should, but never sprang back completely, so I had worse slop than before. I use a blue shock spring and cut off one of the top coils where it is flat. slide it right over the stock plastic spring and never another problem.

did you have to glue or cut a channel to hold the spring in place
I did cut a small channel for the coil to rest in, doesn't need much, just a very shallow groove all the way around. Also when I first cut the coil I left about 2mm overlap, but it felt too tight so I cut off a bit more to make it a bit softer.

Oh, too bad about the no sauce rule. Our local track only allows Corally Jack the Gripper. It has zero foul odors (no oil of wintergreen) and works really well. I think it is basically kerosene oil Maybe your track owner would allow that. Another ok substitute is wd40 for rubber tires on carpet... shhh... Just tell the owner it's just to clean tires haha.
