Battery packs will heat up as they discharge, and the amount of heat they generate is directly related to how powerful a motor you use. The faster the motor, the more amps it will pull from the battery, and the hotter both the motor and battery will be temperature wise. As far as something to put under the battery, I don't think you will find a better insulation than the stock plastic chassis, plastic is not a very good conductor of heat. If you are still wanting to insulate it, something you might try is some form of substance (thin fiberglass like an old T-bar from Associated pan cars cut to fit) to elevate the bottom of the battery off of the chassis a tiny bit. Make sure that when you do this that you are still able to secure the battery to the chassis and that what you use that you will have some form of ventilation on the bottom of the battery pack. An example of what this might look like would be cardboard, kind of like how there are hollow places running front to back on it. I wouldn't use cardboard as it has a low combustion temperature compared to other substances.
Glad that the car is handling better. Something you might want to try is super gluing the sidewalls on the outside of your tires if you are using foam tires. This will in practice make your sidewalls stiffer and reduce chassis roll, which will be controlled more by your suspension and give you a more precise ride. Doesn't take much glue and always start from the inside edge of the rim and work out slowly checking your car handling as you go. Go equal amounts on both fronts and equal amounts on both rears.
And for the other information, I don't know if the company that gave me the information wants it public, but suffice to say, they are testing it right now.

Be aware that the glue on the sidewalls will give you more push in the corners, especially on power so follow Dondor's advice exactly when he says a little at a time with the crazy glue.
I know the Mongoose is pretty big but there is tons of room in the rally. The Exotek chassis is almost identically the same size as the stock chassis. Depending on your choice of battery you can even use that part of the chassis. If you run out of room on the lower part of the platform the top plate on the Exotek is flat and wider than the stock top plate and you surely won't be limited by interference from the body.

The Mongoose fits the R18 Conversion nicely...I don't have pictures yet but I tested placement for balanced corners and decided on a layout. Just need to take the time to finalize the wiring runs and then I'll snap some shots.
So we are going to get rocking with the 18R's mid October. The rules right now are very box stock. I have been tooling around with a house car. The servo saver blows. I thought I read about a Losi replacement. Any input?

Hi, it is a 40 tile by 15 tile RCP track in the basement of Gallimods in Baldwin Place. We finished building it last week. It is open to use whenever you want (except Saturday afternoons as they have birthday parties)They also have a large 8 lane slot track. The racing program is being finalized but there will be an 18r spec 'out of the box' type of class. They are going to run an xray type class, mini-z, mini trucks. On another night they will run oval with legends, mini coppers, tc's and SK's. On another night they will run the slots. Give Ed at the shop a call. Let him know I sent you and he will give you the low down. I believe the first race day is Oct 9th.

What is the difference between the R and MT? I just bought the MT and am very impressed. I have a Mini T and thougt that was nice. The AWD MT blows it away. Is the R sportier and can you convert the MT to an R. Thanks

The R is the car version of the 1/18th. I'm not sure how easy it is to convert the MT to the R but I've heard converting a T to a R is very easy and costs less than $50. The most expensive part is the tires so if you have those it could be drastically less.
