Default Single shaft vs split shaft/slipper 1/18th-Vendetta/RC18 vs MLST/Half 8

Most of the 1/18th buggys and Monster trucks like the Duratrax Vendetta and the Associated RC18/b/t/mt/r (Xray M18T also) have a single drive shaft. The used Losi MLST I just bought on E-bay and the Kyosho mini inferno both have a center diff/slipper clutch and two short shafts one for the front and one for the back wheels.

I know slippers are standard on all 1/10 scale off road vehicles; I believe that it relieves stress/shock on the drive train when landing after a jump.
Is their a real not just theoretical advantage to the 2 shaft slipper combo over the single shaft?

One of the tracks I will be using is a smaller dirt track designed for 1/18th and not 1/10th (thus smaller jumps). I am also interested in running 1/18th scale on both parking lot and carpet road course with no jumps.

My Vendetta ST after I lowered its ride height and ran 1/10 scale tires seamed to do great on the road course.

I noticed that the Losi MLST came in ahead of the Vendettas in the last national championship race. I am not sure if that was driver, two motors vs 1 motor or how modified the drive train of the MLST was.

Any insight or real world experience would help.

Man really good question!! I personally feel that a slipper on a 1/18 is very needed!! I have raced both mini-infernos and vendettas. Out of the box I would take a vendetta over a mini-inferno, BUT given the chance to upgrade the mini-inferno is superior. The way to go with the mini-inferno is as follows:
1 KMRC chassis set ( because it has a 1/10 quality disk style slipper in it, and lays the chassis out like a b44)
2 run either atomic ball diffs or 3 racing HD ball diffs
3 run mip cvds or 3 racing HD cvds
4 run MIP steel outrdrive cups on the center drivetrain,or atomic stainless outdrives. STAY AWAY from ANY aluminum out drives!!!

the drive train listed will handle ANY BL combo you can throw at it.
Here is a pic of the finished product.

i don't give those results much creedance, not with factory team drivers dominating the a-mains. they seem to have all sorts of things most mortals don't have at their disposal. usually at most tracks a particular truck will dominate usually because of layout and obstacles, so pick up whatever the fast guys are running at your local track

Billy Fischer could race a shoebox and win....he has some serious talent...

Back in the day when the Kyosho Mini Inferno was first released me and my son raced at the ECC. Kyosho sent there factory team driver Jeremy Kortz and smoked the field (he won by at least 2 laps). He drove an H8 w a Mamba 25 5400 lipo set up. He utilized the slipper as well...( Jeremy handed out plumbing washers from home depot as a fix for the slipper) Too bad the H8 never caught on.....
