I have the HS-65HS(karbonite gear) in my 18R, it was not a direct bolt in, i had to mod the stock servo mount, i know have the aluminum mounts from exotec and i had to actually widen the servo holes in the stock chasis otherwise the chasis wanted to tweak a little if you tried to just get it to work.
Also the splines are higher on the servo than the stock servo so the servo saver sits a little higher in the chasis, which in turn makes the rack hit the upper deck and bump steer differ from side to side. I had to add a few extra spacers under the right side ball stud to get the tie-rod angle the same from side to side which should have corrected the bump steer issue. You can dremel the rack piece so it doesnt hit the upper deck also.
All in all i got it to work but i would rather have a better servo in this thing.
It doesnt center well when coming onto the straight but im not sure if its the servo saver or the servo itself

more than likely the servo saver. most of us use the outer spring for the xray m18 servo saver around the asc. one do that it is tighter.

After google'ing screw sizes (as both related and unrelated hardware to an RC servo) I came to agree that the screw would be hard to come by, and I'm not one for making the threads larger for 2.5mm. So any way, I contacted the store and switched the servo to the Karbonite version. If I have issues mounting it, I'd rather deal with those than getting a stupid screw to fit. I can be creative in that regard. Whereas creativity won't make a screw bigger.

I would also like to see what the spring looks like for the M18. I ordered this part last week and so far I'm only using the "C" clamp thingie to hold the servo saver. The same store also sells the "C"s seperately. It does add quite a bit of support. How does this compare to the M18 spring?

that "c clamp" you are talking about is the spring, and the stiffer one will help keep the steering straight. im not sure if that setup replaces the stock, but the xray spring goes around the stock unit, and helps keep it tight. i can get a part # later today while im at my lhs. i just use the xray part because i race M18's so i had a few of them handy

instead of buying that c-clamp/spring I just use a couple of coils off an old shock spring and wrap them around the stock servosaver
works great

Man I'm getting anxious to drive my car now. With the new servo on the way... it's also coming with new shocks and an MIP differential. And I got a 3S today. And I also finished painting my Citroen body.
I thought the 3S would be harder to fit, but it's not too bad at all actually. Good thing I didn't get the 2100, though -- I'd have to move things around.

watts - the problem you will find is that its a 2.3mm screw. real oddball size. practically impossible to find hardware for. you can tap the hole out to 2.5, then you will find stuff. imo its not worth it for the mg when the hb will work just as fine, be lighter, and use the screw that comes with the servo saver kit. trust me, ive put some hits on that thing, and it still works just fine
2.3mm screw is a real oddball size :: dremel or file off the extra length. better and lighter (: than stock.

+2 on using the coils from an old shock spring. I put that set-up on both my and my son's RC18's.

I had no geometry issues with the HS65HB in the RC18B, although I did have to file the mounts ever so slightly (because the HS65 case is just a bit wider than the C1016) and mount the servo forward from the AE mounts a little to get proper alignment.

Two different set-ups I've now found that eliminate the steering sloppiness of the stock set-up. On my son's RC18B I installed the coil spring mod and the DP delrin drag link, on my RC18MT I used the coil spring mod and the GPM aluminum steering assembly with bearings.

If I had to do it again, I'd likely go with the Toyz alloy steering assembly that includes the bearings and the servo saver ring. For $14, it's hard to beat.

On a side note... I'm still running the stock C1016 servo in RC18MT from when the RC18MT's first came out in 2005! Guess they don't make 'em like they used to..

And as long as I'm rambling... the Caster Racing Fusion F18T RTR has a better servo saver that's adjustable but the same flexy servo mount and drag link problem. It's easily solved with the Pro servo mounts and drag link though.

The Hitec servos are fine, i also use a HS65 in my RC18B/R since 2 years and no problems so far. Most servos dies because of abusing the full turning radius of the servos. I personally limit the travel of all my servos which i use offroad cars to 95% instead of using the full range.
Once my HS65 should die, i'll try the HXT900 from Hobbyking

No body mentioned the airtronics 94091. It's a drop in and also works with
the associated 21049 servo saver.

Nobody mentioned it because it isn't worth wasting your time on. The 94091 is plastic gear, no bb, and has no better specs than the stock C1016.

Be careful about ordering the HXT900. The ads often state it's a direct replacement for some applications or similar to the HS-55, but I found out that the spline is different than the HS-55, etc.
