I do wish there would be some ruling made about stock micros... For the first couple of years I ran the 180 motors and that was stock [HPI challenge rules]...then last year at a State Race the hand out was a Fireball. This event has a brushless motor as a handout{cool}
It would make life a bit easier if things were a bit more constant. Has there ever been a organization to cement rules for the classes??

The races at Madness are absolutely cutting edge.....I believe the rules are changed based on what is happening in the Hobby. The handout motors will be BL (4200kv) and for racers who dont have BL ESCs they have a deal so you can get one for low bucks....Thanks to Castle Creations. This race opens up opportunities for racers to test there skills and to go to the next level w a BL system....I am looking forward to both races....

The Exotek 18R body is allowed as it was released BEFORE the rules were made public. So, ALL the Associated bodies and the Exotek body will be allowed to run in the stock and open rally classes.

JUST TO MAKE SOMETHING CLEAR. In the STOCK rally class, you must run the STOCK 18R chassis.
In the OPEN rally class you can run the different aftermarket chassis that are made.

I plan to run class 6 with my mod 18R but I have one question, I run 2s 1100mah A-123 and I see the rules say 6 cell nimh or 2s lipo only. The 123's are less voltage than 2s lipo and a little lighter than 6 nimh so my question is would the 123's be allowed since there is no voltage or weight advantage.......BB

Definately! Bring as many as want to roll, the more the merrier. It is a very long weekend, so if you are able to, it's better to run multiple classes as the wait between heats is sometimes long.

Brad....not to speak for Dean, but the A123 cells are lithium based so you should be fine.

funny mike how last couple yrs, we used 180-6cell (2/3AA) @ the HAUS. then we brought 280/300 on 5cells for our trips to 1/10 tracks. we change to 300/5cell to get 'inline' with other micro programs and past events, that and get a common formula for our club racers to run.

now this is making folks stare down brushless speedos and motors, 6 cell batteries after we all got 5s or had them from last yr, and we're still out of touch. and sadly many places will fall inline to this b/c that is what the 'nationals' selected. sounds like a 'MEOW' move to me.

what about small club tracks that are micro sized, not 1/10 if you will. did we think about how those tracks will be able to try and meet their racers interests since this is the 'formula' youve come up with? before any1 says that we run mod down there and those fast cars do okay, might i remind you...THATS MOD!

we open our season down here in less than 2wks and we already have some back n 4th over these rules, our club rules, and MRL rules. and how they can all work better so folks dont have to run/keep all kinds of combinations. that and folks down here want to run what they use @ MRL and at these Nats even. dont think b/c its maryland that folks dont want to come up to you. i know the central PA guys are thinkin the same thing.

period over and out, 4200 brushless and a 6cell for 'stock? c'mon. i like castle, alot in fact...but c'mon.

R- from what i understand reedy couldnt supply stock motors for this year for whatever reason, and castle stepped up and stepped in, and the 4200 is the slowest motor they have, so i wouldnt blame them for that. If I recall correctly they are selling sidewinders up there for a VERY good price ($40 if i recall) for those who don't have BL esc's.

I do however think that 4200/6c is a bit much for stock.. id put $$ on the stock tq being a lap or less off of mod..

Mike, you are right. When Reedy could no longer provide FREE hand out motors Castle came in and said lets work a deal. I thing it is a very good deal as do most people. Electric racing, in all forms, is going brushless. This is a great start for 1/18. Each motor will have a special logo engraved in it so it can be reused if you like in future stock events. We will not be able to do free motors forever.
The special price on the Speed o, you are correct, and NOBODY makes money on it.

As far as 5-6 cell. People had a chance to vote. here were the results
32 for 6-cell
7 for 5-cell
4 for LiPo stock, an option we never gave.

Has anyone except for perhaps, me, compared actual speed of a 5 cell 300 motor car to a 6 cell 4200 car??? Do you realize how close they really are?

To say it is a formula I have come up with, you have no idea how many people were consulted before we said, lets go with this and made a public statement. You have no idea how much money and time it takes to put on these events. So, before people cry and complain, think for a moment. A great deal of time and effort has been put into this. MANY people within the industry were consulted and for long term growth WE thought this was a great idea.

c'mon??? Where are we going.... To R/C Madness

Im all for BL, no motor tuning makes me happy

however..., im going to have to disagree with you here.

from my testing, 4200/5c is close to a 300/5c. 6c is ludacris. what gearing did you use when you were trying this out? These motors are just like any other BL motor, you can keep throwing gear at them and they keep pushing it. even with a 5c, with the right gearing, its faster than a 300/5c(at least at my track, a bigger track may be closer). 6c its not even close, I cant even get all the speed out of 6c at my local track (its fairly small). If you were gearing it like a brushed motor, it may have been a more comparable speed, but up the gearing and its a whole 'nother beast. Like i said, ill put $$ on stock being a lap or less slower than mod.

either way, i still plan on defending the stock title

Hi Mike,
Thanks for your respectful reply. I am all for civil conversation.

When I tested it I used the same gearing. Yes, it was quicker, but by about a second per lap. Bottom line, it still comes down to driver. I look forward to you returning in December. drop me a direct email and we can chat.
