Well, sense everyone else said something, I guess its my turn.
I am a true racer at heart and will race on any track any time and any where, without
having practiced on it or having seen it. My son and I do this every time we come to GB, and we usually do ok, would we do better if we practiced, MAYBE
MAYBE NOT. Point is we do this to have fun and whip a little a-- along the way. So it wouldn't make one difference to me one way or another, and I try and teach my son the same thing.
LETS GET IT ON!

whats wrong w/changin the layout on fri nite but not allowin any practice after your done? guys can come in and run on the surface and set their stuff up since your allowing it. perhaps even help u put the new layout down. but then every1 comes in saturday with no run time on the layout for MRL.
between pit space setup and practice time avail, u dont think ur stackin the deck and placin a premium on getting down to GB on friday?
just thoughts

This is why I say and will point out ,that if you are in this hobby for any amount of time . You need to go to a large race event . There is a true culture to racing real and R/C think about it .

What if you couldn't make it until Saturday at 3:30 or 4pm but had Friday evening free?
To me opening practice for a bit a day before the event doesn't stack the deck, it makes it easier for folks to get in and practice that may not have time on sat.
I'm not a hard core racer (although i wish i could be hahah), i have 3 young kids a full time job and a budding side job, i also do computer work on the side. It's hard to make time for my hobby so by Robbie allowing a more flexible practice setup it makes it easier for me and folks in a similar situation to show up and race. The micro's especially have made racing more accessible to me as they don't require the time investment that some of the larger scales do to be competitive.
Good example is a person in the armed forces and on reserve list (they go for a weekend a month to the base) so when he has to come in to the track for the whole Saturday it would be hard on him and his wife, he can practice on Friday and show up at 3 or 4 on sat and have a great race day w/o giving up his whole sat, not to mention the wife wouldn't give him nearly as much grief about half and half .
That is not stacking the deck because folks that have to travel will not be able to come to the track on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, as well as Friday to practice like most of the locals can.
I said from the time the question was asked about a new layout that it was going up Friday night. I've also always allowed, and said from the beginning that I would allow racers to practice Friday night. How is it unfair that ALL racers, near and far, have advanced notice that they will be able to come out and practice on a fresh layout Friday night if they would like to?
I could have gone to Fredrick and practiced there Friday night before their MRL race. I decided not to. If my car was bad I wouldn't complain because others got track time that I didn't. I'm the one who chose to stay home. In that case I would have been beaten fairly because it was my failure to prepare for the event. When we raced at Mimi's guys had the opportunity to practice all day long on that layout. Some took advantage, others stayed home. Pocket Fred came in Saturday and won both classes on Sunday.
It's not like I'm hiding the fact that you guys can come out and practice. If I was keeping that bit of info from you, then yes it would be unfair. The fact that I've told you that you can do it, I'm positive I've made it fair to everyone. Whether you take me up or not on my offer to come out and practice Friday night is on you. That's your decision. I'm giving you the opportunity the same as I'm giving to all the guys from NC, PA, etc.

i knew you were changing the track, citing to make it fair. but then i heard bout open practice friday, thus i began to wonder how that was fair to those who couldnt come down the day before. in hindsight, i guess from 9am-3pm, u havent figured out what u'll need to run well, u wont.
moving on, i'll be running 'club' specification havin lent chill my 280 motor.
u'll win either way .

I thought it was for fun like 3-Dizzle said. I know competitive spirit and all but there are positives to what is attempted to be done. How about "I can", "I will", "Yes", "I agree" etc. Too many "can't", "naws", "I dont know" means a bunch of negitivity. It really drains the fun out of racing.
I think to make it fair you should change the track 5 min before the first race, then do a couple races, change it again after the 3rd race, then again after the 7th. By the time you hit the mains you will have changed the track 15 times and kept everyone on thier toes!
Bottom line, not everyone will be happy with all the decisions made. Some will not be happy with ANY decision made . Changing the track Friday afternoon and letting everyone practice Friday and Saturday is more fair than most any other places do it. And as Denmark put, your their for fun first off. If you aint having fun, dont come. If you want to come and pout and cry, that is fine too, it just provides more entertainment for the rest!
I'll bring the grill
anyone will be able to use it
I'll go as far to bring some dogs and cheap burgers if no one wants to lay me out for that...... lol
prolly a bag of chips or so.
Other than that.....let's do some racin'
Ryan.you pittin with us in the hooch?...that's cool...I'll bring you a jug of soy milk.
Lookin' forward to meeting some new racers!

Shawn, "I AGREE" with everything you said. "YES", I will have fun on Saturday and "I WILL" be there Friday night not just to practice but to be with good friends. I had a rough week last week and almost called it quits for the rest of the season but not racing with good people is out of the question. Plus Brandon would kill me. I have one more thing to say......
LETS ALL GET ALONG!
