Ok... I figured NorCal was where you were talking about but just wanted to make sure. I'm in Hayward, less than 10 minutes from there. I'm hoping to get an 18R soon to run on your carpet track over there. Gotta get my Detta setup too...
Yes the 18r is in stock and we have 7 left.We sold 7 yesterday so get in the shop asap guys! They are out of stock for awhile at the distributors so what we have is what we will have until after the new year. They are so good out of the box on carpet.3 of us were practicing tonight with them.Working on different setup changes too. We are gonna open up a class on our onroad days so we can race these.Should be wicked fun.
Tony (TPhalen), congrats with your fastest micro in that Car Action Magazine. I have a suggestion to try to keep your RC18 on the ground. Your lift problem is an aerodynamic problem. Looking at the pictures of your RC18, it didn't look like you really had addressed this. If you make a lexan piece to run parallel to the bottom of your chassis and have it go all the way out to the front, rear, & sides of your body. This would help to relieve the lift at speed. Basically what is happening is your body is acting like a huge wing, right now. By doing my suggestion, it would help to keep the air from being sucked under the body & wing & should reduce the lift. You may also want to add some cutouts in the lexan near mid-rear to help create a little drag & downforce and then make some cutouts in the rear to let this air escape from the car. If you look at some real GT or le mans cars, they use the same idea.
We own Tamiya M03-L Mini Coopers. For anyone who also has minis....do these handle and/or feel like a Mini Cooper? I'd think the 4WD drive would be very different though. Is the speed like that of a silver can motor in the Mini Cooper?
We have the Suzuki Swift mini. At lower speeds they handle about the same.
(fwd vs 4wd) at higher speeds the rc18 handles much better. The Suzuki goes about 15-17mph while the rc18 goes about 20mph. Being the rc18 is smaller it looks like it goes even faster. The rc18 suffers from torque steer (shaft drive) so it is a little more squirrelly than the mini.....
I dont know about the original tires on road considering there is nothing but ice and snow where i am but the original tires are not good for carpet in any way... even stock out of the box on carpet it acts like a drifting car. I have done a few changes on my 18R already as i had only purchased it today by adding bowtie tires on RPM chrome wheels installed an 18B body and wing 18B rear shock tower i removed the front body mounts but kept the front shock tower cause it is way thicker than the other RC18's cause the wheel width is so much shorter i couldnt use the original body also i have installed the Reedy 19T SP motor with an LRP ESC. But in order to change to different wheels you must change out the axle stubs to stocker 18T/B shafts cause the originals are shorter. Next aluminum chassis, Tit turnbuckles, and lipo system possibly a Mamba comp X 8000kv system with Lipo.

I actually had pretty good luck with the stock rubber tires on carpet although my Wraith brushless was a little too much power for indoor carpet. I recently changed motors and re-geared. I also found some GPM foams that I had laying around that I never used. Not sure what they're supposed to fit. But I trued them down the same diameter of the stock rubber tires. I haven't had time to try them out yet on carpet. I also have some CRC foam donuts that I need to mount and true, just haven't had time.
