Since you mentioned diffs... This is a post that I copied a while back from someone named "signats" on diff settings although I cannot remember from which forum. It might help.

The relationship between the front and rear diff tightness can radically change the way your truck handles.

These are the effects of the differentials settings in relation/contrast to each other.

Front Differential:
Looser:
More steering into corners (off power), too loose and steering may become inconsistant, and the truck may loose all steering coming out of the corner (understeer/push).

Tighter:
More stability when braking into corners, and more steering at the exit of the corner getting back on the power.

Rear Differential:
Looser:
More cornering traction, and steering into corner (off power), truck steers quicker into the corner. May oversteer getting back on the power at corner exit.

Tighter:
Truck will push (understeer) on power, and will have less overall traction while cornering.

The stock settings on my truck were almost perfect as delivered, the front diff. was a little bit tighter than the rear.

If you do play around with the diff settings rember to never allow either of the diffs to be adjusted so loose that they slip when you accelerate, and the RC18t diffs are made of plastic so be carefull when tightening the diff down because the adjustment screw can strip out the plastic threads if you go too far.

Wow, great pics danthrc. I especially like the one of the 18R catching air from clipping the rail.

danthrc: that's a AWESOME looking track! I'm trying to figure out what the surface is though. I can see that the surrounding area is concrete, so is the track the concrete surface, painted black? Or is there something on top of the concrete?

Thanks! Mr.Maim

Thank you, the track is a blast to run on.

The surface is asphalt. The black looking surface for the lanes is the same asphalt with a polymer based sealer applied to it, that you can get at Home Depot for about $11.00 per 5 gallon bucket. The entire track took a little more than 2 buckets.

I applied it with a paint roller and it smoothes the surface out, and dries with a texture that adds good grip for the cars. The rubber 18R tires are great, and the foams that we race on our Xrays, is even better.

That is a beautiful track and layout.

Would it be possible for you to take some close-up shots of the infield area? I'd like to see your track barriers and how they interlock and how the paint job looks close-up.

Also, how do you keep real autos from getting too close to the setup on race and practice days? Just orange cones?

dune - I definately want to attract a large event, even a 1/18 on road national if possible. I plan on marketing this track and location (Houston) to manufacturers for sponsorship. I only completed it a few weeks ago. The track is down right awesome to run on.

Chicago - I will post some close ups when I get on a different computer.
The lane barriers are 1" schedule 20 (thin wall) PVC pipe with foam pipe insulation wrapped around it (purchased from home depot) The foam has a
1 1/8" ID so it wraps around nice.
Then I drilled holes in the pipe and isulation and nailed it to the asphalt with a 3" masonary nail.
Rolled the paint for the infield right on with a paint roller, and the yellow striping with a narrow paint roller.
The lanes are coated/painted with a polymer based asphalt sealer (home depot again) Very cheap and great traction.

When we do get a big event down here, we will be able to re surface the entire track for less than $25 the day before the event starts. That will make for a perfect track, with great conditions.

The shop where this track is located has plenty of covered pit tables, electricity, full hobby shop, elevated drivers stands, and lots of parking.
