Default X-Mods

Any one got any experience w. these things???? my buddys and I wanna mess around in my basement, but we dont feel like spending another 150-250 dollars.(we both already have RC18's) They have hop-ups, which seems interesting, and are relatively inexpensive...Any thoughts????

They are going to be discontinued by Radio Shack. I would spend an extra $30 and get a Kyosho Mini-Z. More support, hop-ups and better quality.

I Realize that mini-Zs have more hop-ups, and perform better, and I'm sure most of you would recommend them.... but once again, I want to be able to zip around in my basement without lightening my wallet too much.

(Got about 100$ extra to dish out for this)

I already own 2 xmods and I have to say they aren't exactly what you call fun to dirve. Teh radios and steering is awfull and they steering gets sloppy fast too. I would go mini z any day. Look on ebay for some deals.

I got my F-150 Xmod for $30 bucks. Worth that much - you only need like another $30 worth of upgrades to make it drive much better (bearings, 4wd kit, suspension upgrade, some tires, and the stage 2 motor and gears). Sounds lika a lot but, keep in mind the upgrades can be found for like $4 to $10 bucks as you will find a lot of clearances.

I say get one if you can find these prices.

Steering and handling is just passable, but speed is good with some decent Intellect AAA's. I have fun tossing it around on my hardwood floor.

No need to bring Mini Z's into the conversation as that IS a much more expensive ballgame, although the Iwaver's (Mini-Z knock off) might be a good intermediate route. Or get a Micro-T! I don't get acceptable traction on hardwood with my Micro-T though. Could be just mine and I haven't spent much time messing with it yet.

Between my brother and I we have about 12 Xmods. They are horrible with handling, but they can get quick fast, as far as drag racing goes, my xmods owns a mini z or iwaver. That being said if it's a race with any turns, i'm done for with my xmods. The all wheel drive units don't last long, maybe a month or two of racing, and you can never run successfull awd in it again, things get too worn out.
However, my brother has an Iwaver Firelap nano Racer 2.0, and it is amazing, the remote is all digital, amazing tech in that thing, and the car handles better than anything i've ever seen, and it's still pretty quick stock, he got it for $60 new, you cannot beat it, kinda of a wait, because it has to be shipped, but if you want to have fun in that small scale, you have to go iwaver, purists will say the much more expensive mini z is better, but if you want fun, not a investment venture, go iwaver.

i have had seven of them. you can get pretty crazy with them too. six cells, li-pos, 30 turn motors, stacked fets can realy make your car go fast. i only have 4 now 2 trucks 2 cars. i truck is in peices now becuase while working on the board i accidentally touched something i shouldnt have and i fried it. so basically its a parts truck. i have another truck thats not running correctly atm but i wouldnt sell it if it was broken. i have a drifter that wroks prefectly. my drifter has custom made pvc tires made by me. it has radioshack awd ($7), bearings ($17), rim set/chrome brakes ($5) and stage 2 motor good for about 15mph ($16). my fourth xmod is currently not for sale as it is perfectly mint and has almost no play on it. its totally stock but would cost a lot to take from me.

overall i probably spent 100 on my drifter alone. if your interested make me an offer

i could try fixing up my truck for you if your interested in it.

If you have $100 dollars and want to have fun in your basement.... get a micro-t. They are awsome.

I dont know I have 2 of them and there were pretty fun for indoors pretty fast when you start getting into lipo's or at the most basic a 6 cell mod. grab the civic and an rsx, you can use the rsx front clip to lower the civic and the civic shell will hold 2 extra cells with little effort.

I've had two x-mods and for the money they're ok. Just be prepared to work on them right off. They need two resistors soldered in to make the steering function decently. Some also seem to have range issues and need those resistors replaced too. So if you get one do both mods right off, trust me. Now I don't know if these issues where addressed by radio shack, so newer ones might be good to go....? Atomic mods has good info on the cars as well as parts and even hop-ups. Here's some links for ya if you get one.

Range fix:

Here's my old stock car x-mod. Had alot of fun with her, now its a bookshelf model. I should just sell it

the evos are much much better now. you only need the resistors for gen1s not the evos. they dont sell the gen1s any more( canceled a couple years ago) now if you buy a new evo i can guarantee you will not have any mechanical problems brand new, if anything itll be electrical. an electrical problem usualy happens if you tamper with it other than the normal modding of xmods, never usualy out of the box. if theres a problem you can always return it to radioshack under the normal 30 day return policy.

if you want something cheap that can turn better than an xmod, why not try an iwaver?
