Default Building on-road 1/18th race track

Like what the topic says I'm planning of building a carpet race track at my back yard size will be 30x15 for 1/18th scale RC cars.

Question what kind of carpet i can use other than the CRC carpet? I seen some ozite outdoor carpet at costco will this work?

does it need to be picked up after each race or will it be a somewhat permanent installation?

What's the surface underneath the track?

It's going to be permanent since I'm building the track on my backyard. I already have the frame down just need to nail the plywood on top. Then the carpet but where I can get a cheaper one than a CRC carpet.

sounds interesting. I'm seeing this thing getting wet, when you say backyard.

A couple of thoughts:

CRC now carries Mini Fastrack, it's 5 bucks per yard.

Tar paper AKA roll roofing material, use the coating to fill in the cracks or glue it down maintaining a tight tolerance between the gaps

Painter's muslin, stretch it and glue to surface then coat with polyurethane

The reverse side of the "astro-turf" carpeting sold at Home Depot.

OK thanks guys My friend that use to own a carpet track still have some new roll of CRC carpet hiw selling me one 40x12 for cheap. The frame will be permanent but I'm not planning to glue the carpet down so this way I can take it out like you said incase it rains.

In case you wanted to make it permanent next time you are at a Home Depot look at the backside of the astro-turf. It's made for exterior applications.

Have fun!!!
