I have a novak spy on my m18 and want the fastest motor I can possibly put on it. The track I run on is for 1/10 scale. Currently have an orion coreless and its kinda slow for the track.
I was thinking of having 2 motors for the car, the orion one for my basement and a faster one for the track.
Hmmm, something tells me that motor would NOT be a good match for the Spy. The most motor I've tried with one was that 280 size motor that Associated sells with their RC18T(the kit motor), we tried those in our M18's, & on asphalt or concrete they ran ok, but when we put down carpet at our local track & traction really picked up, we started pushing those motors a lot harder, & when mine ate itself, it killed my Spy at the same time(I think when it ate itself, the amp draw spiked hard, & that overloaded the Spy, burned it out). So I'd say that 280 is about as far as you should ever go with that ESC(& I'm pretty sure that either of those Cobalt18's are more powerful than that).....
Thats really strange...the Novak site lists the speks as such....

The spy was upgraded,,,I think it happened last year. Anyway, before that, it would not handle to much. Now it's not bad. The rc18t comes with a 370 not a 280 as mentioned. Original kits had the smaller motor....
The updated spy should handle the 370 without problem.

That may be true, but I did mean the original kit motor, that's what we were using(especially since we could get 'em for about $9 apiece), & I should';ve also mentioned that we run with 6 cell batteries & my Spy was an original(most likely not the updated one), so that would explain alot....
