Duneland,
The "VCS" springs that you refer to, is that an abreveation or the actual name of the spring? I am relatively new to this and do not recognize all the different names. I also run a strictly stock class so not many after market parts are used. Thanks for your input..
ackerman in forwards position on inside of rack (back on knuckles)
Can I ask what that does to the steering? so to get this straight....you use the other set of holes for the ball studs on both the rack and steering knuckles? or do you just move 1 set of the ball studs?
I've noticed that the Exotek chassis does seem to make the car handle a lot better (lot less roll in the corners), I'm now having to push myself even more now (running a std recoil chassis) to keep ahead of a guy who's just bought the Exotek chassis (he's improoved by over 2 laps per run since running it )
Here's my current set up:
Front:
Around 4 or 5mm ride height.
1.5* camber (link in stock holes)
Use a rear top shock ball stud to replace the front inner upper link ball stud
Purple tyres (sidewalls ca'd) run them how they come size wise (currently 44mm)
stock spring (rear shock shaft in front shock)
50wt oil, 2 hole piston
middle hole on tower
6*caster blocks
Rear:
around 4 or 5mm ride height
1.5* camber (link in stock holes)
3* toe currently
Fairly short wheelbase for our tight track
stock spring
40wt oil, stock piston
middle hole on tower
Purple tyres, run them how they come size wise (currently 44mm)
Addative: Front inside half, Rear full width
Mamba 25 with Dynamite 9200kv motor
either NiMh's or Flypo 1300mah Li-Po's
Scanner RC micro metal geared servo
Spektrum micro receiver
Stock chassis/top plates
Pro Motor mount
STD Geared diffs with Schumacher Mi3 shims inside
Airshot and 4 cell, i believe you guys are asking the same quesiton? The ballstuds are in the forward position, and in the rear on the knuckles. This yeilds more steering, and more response. pic attached (sorry for bad quality, cell phone cam)
The VCS springs are the team associated springs for the 1/10 pan car.
Dune, stiffer springs in rear than in the front something must really be off somewhere else in the car. I think your trying to make up for something else.. run a top-deck on the car. That will help free you up

Reason: clarification
Geeunit,
Not trying to make up for anything!
Upper decks are for backmarkers!
The stiffer rear spring goes along with the current roll center shim location. When I move that, I reverse the springs..
Airshot, the Asc micro VCS springs can be cut in half. One spring does two shocks. I hate cut springs, but untill I get the springs out, there is no alternative. Well, you could run the stock ones like Geeunit says, but that takes 2-3 laps off.

I am looking to buy spur gears for the recoil. so far no shops have them close by me.
is there any other size than 58 also??
Best Regards
Got you pm on this subject. sorry I didn't get back to you. I was working on that, when I got sidetracked. I'll check my stock when I get to the shop in a little while. They have other sizes (smaller) in the 'speed' pack, comes with pinions too.
I just checked, and I am out of stock on the spurs. They are in stock at the distributer, so there should be no problem getting them.

The bars I used are re-shaped Vendetta rear bars. I also used the Detta front links. It's a pretty expensive approach. I intend to market bars for the Recoil, iin the near future (spring sets too).
Airshot, I never actually tested the relative stiffness of the springs. They both seemed WAY too soft to me, so I didn't bother. Could be some variance between one and another anyway...
instead of trying to "reshape" something else, why don't you go down to your local Ace Hardware and check out their selection of K&D hobby legth piano wire and just make your own

Not fond of the music wire bars. I have it in stock and have never been happy with the results. I have made many anti-sway bars that way, and they always 'tweek'. Not convinced that the Vendetta bars are any better, but they were very close to the right shape. Only took a small amount of persuasion to get them installed.
Will do it over when I get some good spring steel.

maybe I missed something over the years, but what's the "real" difference between piano wire and spring steel wire if there is one?
my understanding was that the manufacturers used piano wire and bent it on jigs to make sway bars or springs. I thought spring steel was just used in plate/sheet material
Not the same. There are different grades of music/piano wire as there are with spring steel. Music wire may be considered to be in the 'family' of spring steel, but it takes a bend to easy to suit me.

Thanks for the reply. I am looking for spurs for the Recoil. but I use them elsewhere. I do not need pinions. when you get the spurs in please let LMK through PM.
Best Regards
P.S.
Sorry I wasn't sure if the PM went through so I posted here.
