Hey Hey! Ask and ye shall receive!

What do you guys think of it? What electronics and motor would you put in, the same upgrade on the other Recoil?

The rtr has plastic gear diffs. They work well, but need to be shimmed up a bit. There is too much backlash in stock config.
The pro arr will have ball diffs, but we won't see it for a while. Hopefully we will get to fondle it a bit next week at the Hobby show.

Default motors

I was wondering what motors have been tried. Since the kit motor is 'problematic', we have been using the Carisma R380 motor. The goal is to find a motor of similar performance, but more reliable. Some tracks have been allowing the Asc. 18t/b motor. I tried it, works well but runs HOT! I pretty much cooked one in 1/2 dozen runs.
I put a GWS 400 motor in it & thought it was way slow... Till I geared up.... WAY up! With a 19t pinion, it runs about the same as the Carisma motor does with a 13!
Personally, i would rather run open class (bl/lipo). But, am allways looking for alternative stock choices.
So far, my list of allowed stock motors is; kit motor, Carisma R380, Asc. 18t/b kit motor, and the GWS 400.

The Carisma motor isn't reliable?

How so?

I've been running the same one all Summer outdoors and just brought it indoors and besides some motor spray, an occasional dip in Mother's polish, and lubing it regularly it runs like a charm.

New guy here, just found this Recoil forum. As most of you have already found, this Recoil is an excellent RTR. Having just begun to read all the great info on these many pages I have noticed all the problems with the motors. I was warned by some previous owners about the brush problems these motors have, yes the factory brushes are to soft. They come apart and mess up the motor. Right away I installed a set of harder silver brushes and did the breakin thing. I have now run more than 50 battery packs thru the original motor without any problems. The guys at our club have done the same thing and no one has had any motor issues so far. Hope this helps some of you.
Thanks for letting me join.

I'd like to try your setup. I have three of the motors stashed away.

What specific brushes did you use?

Where did you get them?

What's your "breakin thing"?

Did you just use the stock springs when reinstalling?

I'll try it and report back once I have your info.

thanks!

After about 4 months of rebuilding dampers after every meeting - both the stock and the alloy bodied versions - I still cant stop them leaking. Any solutions?

Default shocks

I dont know what the problem with your shocks are but Ive only seen 1 leak and the cap was loose. Its probably somthing real simple check seals.

There are 8 or 9 Recoils that race each week, and we all suffer leaking dampers. As the manufacturing tollerance's are not that good with the Recoil, they can leak from the cap, but more often from the cartridge at the base of the body. The O rings supplied are made from a hard plastic, and as the diameter of the shaft and the hole it slides through are, shall we say, not even close (in size) the O rings have no chance of sealing the lower cartridge.

Have you tried the duratrax VR3 motor. I know Venom sells a bunch of 0.5 mod pinions with 2.3mm shaft.

Works really nice, but you have to cut out the chassis a bit.
