Another recoil noob here, been doing nitro 1/8th bashing for a year and this is my first 'lectric. The recoil is an awesome little car imo. Can be a pain to do some work, but not too bad. The motor is definitely a shot in the dark to get a good one, mine started hanging brushes on the first battery I believe. After about 10 charges or so it finally gave up. I read on either here or rcuniverse that ppl had put the carisma 380 in and were happy, but I didn't catch the part about the adapter plate. So on mine I used the stock plate and dremeled the center gap out so the shoulder around the shaft would fit. Doing this I mounted the motor w/o having to modify the chassis as I've read about in this thread, so I spose there 'is' a way around it. The downside is that I had to use the 14tooth pinion because I couldn't get the motor close enough to the spur to engage anything smaller. I have noticed this motor running cooler, the stock was getting really hot. I've read about the brushless motors in here but I'm still confused as to which is good when some ppl say one is good and others say the same one is too small. I "think" it seems like the wraith 7k is about what I want from reading here, but what is a good esc for it? I'm mostly using 6cell nimh but got a couple 7cells too, no lipo for me. Also does someone have a part number for the ball diffs from the vendetta as a set or do you have pick individual parts from tower or somewhere? Also whats the difference on the different color foam tires? I'm still on the stock rubbers which seem to be good but I'd like to try out some others too (for asphalt driving, no prep on it). And does someone have the cvd set part number handy? TIA

The tires are; pink-soft, magenta-med, purple-firm. Generally speaking, the softer tires give more grip and wear faster. Even the pinks will far outlast the kit rubber tires though.
As far as motors go, 380 - 400 sized motors work best.
Looks like the new Novak system will be ideal for the Recoil. Will have to wait a while for that one tho.

Also, does anyone know if this body will fit from the Carisma 1/14 car?

I believe all the bodies from the Carisma 1/14 cars will fit as the Recoil is actually a Carisma 1/14 car. Not tried it personally though.

The Carisma cars are all about the scale detailing. They are proportioned for scale appearance and do not conform to one specific wheelbase and width. I am not sure which ones will work okay on the Recoil. I'll look into it one day. Most will not line up properly.

The Graupner German site shows A Ferrari 360gtc, porsche 997 and audi dtm among others. Somewhere I saw a website that had a Mercedes DTM, try this

Default Spur Gear

Does anyone know of any other manufacturer making decent spur gears for the Recoil? or at least, something that fits.

Today I showed up at Indy Slots (Indianapolis, IN) to race my recoil which I bought last week, but only one other guy showed up. They have been having 5-6 guys race a stock class for the past few weeks. I won't be able to try again for a couple weeks as I will be out of town.

It was going to be my first race. I'll have to try some other time.

I did practice some ad ran into what I think is the hanging brushes problem everyone on the previous pages has been describing. It will run for a while, then if I pause for a few seonds it won't go anywhere. Tapping the motor with a srewdriver lets the motor take off again. I talked to a the other guy who showed up and he said no one else at the track has been having the problem.

Also, I stripped the rear diff, but parts to rebuild are cheap, and I added some lube and it runs very quietly.

On a side note, I did trade a 1/10 HPI RS4 w/ a Novak 5.5 brushless for a very well built and stocked x-ray 1/18 ad ended up buying another guy's Associated 18R for $75 with electronics. The 1/10 is too big for the track at Indy Slots, and the brushless was way to fast for me.

MY recoil motor hung a brush as you describe. I put a carisma motor in, as it meets my tracks stock rules requirements. It is so much better.
RR- I think you had a great day!! A little practice, some wheelin and dealin,...Perfect! lmk. how you like the m18. compared to the Recoil. tnx

I just snugged mine up a bit. Some others eliminated the slipper.
