Hey Duneland! There was talk your place might maybe race Recoils on the pavement. Is the rumor true?
JUst so you know there's enough Recoils showing up at Strictly on Sundays on the parking lot track that they have their own class now. A few of the people are running BLIPO and would love to have your BLIPO guys show up for some competition!
"chicagokenji: I wonder if it was Rusty who came out to race. The track owner did say he sprayed some Grape Nehi or something down........They are going to put up a nice indoor track for winter racing but it might be too small for the Recoil "
Get two guys with push brooms and sweep the whole thing off. If you can get a pressure washer that's even better. Makes a heck of a difference. A 3gallon garden pressure sprayer with a mix of one bottle of pancake syrup and the rest water might work great.
Our indoor track is 30x20. Recoils are fun on that size track
Cool, that facillity is very nice from what I have heard.
The Mamba 8k is a bit small for the Recoil. We haven't had much luck getting them to work in Vendettas, Mini Quakes etc. They work very well in M18, Scalpel, RC18 series, etc.
They lack enough torque for the heavier chassis. With the right gearing and esc profiles, it can work, but it is much easier to just put a larger motor in it. Golden Horizons airpower 4700 is a good choice and sells for fifty bucks or less. The Electrafly I use is about $39. Venom has a long can 180 sized motor(same diameter as Mamba but longer and torquier) that works quite well for $39.
As far as track size goes, the track in my store is 34' X 19' and the Recoils work well and feal ok on that size. Strictly RC has a track that is slightly smaller and they also run the Recoil. It will also feel right at home on 1/10 sized tracks.
It would only be to big for the track if they were building a Mini-Z sized track.
Oh yes, it is a nice facility. I forgot what overall dimensions the indoor track was going to be but he said they would have 5' wide lanes. I am sure it is being geared towards 1/18 and smaller, including Xmods.
Duneland, so it would be a good idea to put up a trade with my Mamba for something better suited? Where might I find an Electrafly or Venom for the price you quoted?
Chicagok, I like that idea of using pancake syrup! A lot less expensive, too. I wish I could come up there some time. Joliet is closer and I want to check out, is it Leisuretime in St. Louis? Those look like killer tracks!

I have the ElectraFly in stock, the Venom is out of stock right now, but I could get them anytime as could the other stores. If Jtec is going with 5' lanes, I would think the track will be as big or larger than mine. I use 4' lanes. X-mods and Mini-zs are lost on a track that size.
is anyone cutting their foams? i race my recoil on carpet and need a way to remove some foam.
None of us have been truing them down. I think they are of an appropriate diameter right out of the box. Haven't come up with an adapter yet, for truing.
Going with stiff springs/low ride height and adjusting other factors, like roll center, diff settings, shock oil etc. get the corner speeds up without traction rolling.

I don't think I have seen your store yet. Do you have a website? Which motor do you like best? Didn't I see people using different brands of foam tires for their Recoil? What about batteries, Duneland? What configuration would give the best performance and run time?
My web site is; www.dunelandhobbies.com
I lost the hard drive in the computer that I used to update the website, so it hasn't been updated in quite some time.
For small to medium tracks I like the Electrafly outrunner.
I use a 3cell Apogee 1500 battery or 2cell for smaller tracks. Outrunners are inherently more efficient than inrunners & give great run time. I don't know of any other tires that fit.

Yeah, I did not see the motors on there. Excuse my nubeeness but what are "outrunners" and "inrunners"? Or what is the difference?

The website has never been set up for ordering and most products are not on there.
Outrunnner is 'inside out'. The magnets are in the can and the can rotates around the windings. Inrunners have the windings in the can and the armature has the magnets on it. Outrunners are very popular with the airplane crowd. They typically have lower RPM, higher torque, and greater efficiency. Most car/truck motors are of the inrunner variety, for the extra rpm. The ElectraFly goes over 3,000 rpm per volt, which is pretty good for an outrunner. They require a bigger pinion than an inrunner of similar power output. With a 3 cell LiPo, it will be good enough for a medium sized 1/10 track. Anything bigger than that will need an inrunner, or an outrunner with more power/larger opinion.

Okay, I get it now. I am used to inrunners then (I have a few.....a lot of Xmods). So what do you think is the best set up for me, since you kinda know the track I will probably race at?
I read something on your site about humidity and the effects on a nitro engine. Could that be why my RB Concepts isn't running? What suggestions do you have for getting it going again? (I know, wrong forum. You can PM me the answer)
Humidity displaced the amount of oxygen available for your engine to burn so you need to lean it out. Per a given volume of air that your engine ingests if the humidity is high there's less burnable O2.
