looking for a gearing for the recoil im putting a 6800 mamba and i cant get a good gearing
Mamba is too small for Recoil. Get a larger motor!
In the mean time, put the smallest pinion on and go up one tooth at a time, untill it pulls most of the straight.
??? If the Mamba is the same size as the Dynamite C4 or Tekin, it should fit fine. You just need to make sure you get the right holes lines up in the motor plate. I have used both the Tekin and C4 motors in my car starting at 8000KV and up. I've been thinking about trying something in a 6500-7000KV rating just to see how they would compare to the stock motors. Our goal here has been that if we allow people to run other motors, we don't want there to be a performance advantage. This way it will prevent people from feeling like they "have to" spend a couple hundred bucks to be competitive.

When he says it is too small he means the motor will get very hot and burn up after a few runs and I agree with him.
Mamba 6800 R.I.P.
C4 9200 R.I.P.
Wraith is in the mail.
Are you guys gearing the snot out of these or something that they're buring up?
We (myself and many other 'micro' enthusiasts) have been running virtually ALL small scale cars/trucks/buggies for many years. Have been running Mamba systems since the first shipment, same with 'latecomer' Tekin. Problems usually arrise when putting Mamba size motors in some of the larger/heavier vehicles. High start-up loads due to weight and or gearing, will likely cause; stuttering/hesitations/cogging/and excessive heat. These experiences are not just my own (all though I have used most of the esc/motor/vehicle/battery combinations available)but also those of many experienced racers and enthusiests that frequent my store/track.
There is simply no reason to use an undersized 180 motor in a car of this size. Many of the larger motors are less expensive and perform way better.
I ran a Mamba 8k (same one) for a couple seasons, in my M18, then put it in a Nanda NRX18. Switched that out for a C4 9200. For me, that size motor, barely puts out enough torque for the 1/18 on-road cars. I gear it 12/42 in those cars, or maybe 11/42 (will have to check later, don't remember for shure). The Mamba 8k was still going strong when I removed it. That size motor works well in; M18,RC18t/b, Scalpel. But is lacking in the larger Vendetta, Mini Quake and of course the Recoil which is even bigger.
Most of us are installing fans on our mamba systems. That seems to keep them cool.
We have at least 3 people that are running mambas at our track and maybe 1-2 more. some 8,000 nad Im running a 6800.
Isn't it true that a lower KV motor will ba able to handle the bigger car since it has more low end torque? So if my theory is correct, then a 6800 'should' run longer then a 8000 if they were both same every thing else (gearing battery and car etc...)

Im sure the sportwerks/horizon guys on here would appreciate this. But what about this puppy? Other than the price, it sounds like it could be the perfect match for your vehicle. You would have to use kyosho MI pinions though since its the 2.3 shaft.
Indeed, that would be an excellent choice. So far, most of my brushless runs with the Recoil, have been with an Electrafly Outrunner. It's a lot cheaper than the Cyclon, probably has less power too.
2.3mm shaft does not present much of a problem. Carisma makes pinions for that shaft w/same pitch. Robinsons (for 18t) can be easily drilled to correct size, to get additional gearing choices.
If you have to put a fan on the system, it just proves that the system is working way too hard! Why not just put a larger motor in the car? It saves money & gives whatever performance curve you are after.
Would you take the engine out of a Ford Focus & put it in a Lincoln Navigator? Perhaps with enough performance add-ons, it would move, but why bother?
