Any 27 am tx will work. You can even get a 27 am module for some of the high-end radios, for use with typical am 27 rtrs.

Not always true. You can't use Airtronics Crystals in a Futaba radio, just as an example. This is also why the Novak Synthesized receiver has 2 mode switches, one for I believe KO, Futaba, and Hitec, and the other mode is for Airtronics and I think JR.

Depending on the pinion you use, you might have an issue getting at the bottom motor mounting screw. I put an 8000KV Dynamite C4 motor in and needed to use a ball driver to tighten the lower screw all the way

I'm running my Recoil with the mamba 8000Kv motor i found a adapter from a electric airplain worked great in getting the motor to fit the car properly.
also if you get a set of extra rear shock shafts and put them in the front shocks you will eliminate the binding the front gets as the threads from the shorter shaft creates as it travels into the shock body.
here's a link to a video my brother took of my recoil with the mamba.

Sup guys, nOOb to the realm of minis.

I'm currently running a RC18t w/ a McAllister dirt oval body, Cobalt 18 motor, LRP ESC, Airtronics micro servo, and a Spektrum DX3 radio.

I'm looking to pick up a Recoil to add to the fleet and I want to upgrade the electronics.

I'll add a Spektrum receiver, Hitec servo, and I have a Mamba 25 that I like to use.

I have seen a few BL motors mentioned in this thread, but being new I don't recognize many of the manufactures.

Would it be possible to get a few links posted?

Thanks in advance! This has been the most informative thread on the Recoil that I have been able to find on-line!

Just be careful running hot brushless setups on the Recoil. In stock form it only has gear diffs so under heavy loads they might strip. Right now there is no ball diff option but I believe Ron from Duneland has been experimenting with putting Duratrax Vendetta diffs in it.

I know just switching from rubber to foam tires with the same motor the diffs are under a little bit more load.

==

Have fun with it either way. These Recoils are a blast!

Yea i busted 2 spyder gears when i put the mamba 8000 in it.
but by loosening the slipper 1 turn I haven't busted any drive parts.
also added a medium preload to the rear shocks to help with the squatting under power.
Even with all that power in it she still handels great. only a hair more push under power in the turns.

I was thinking something in the 5000 KV range w/ 6 cell Elite 1500s would be pretty manageable and not so hard on the diffs.

The surface we race on is a polished hardwood floor, so less is more in this instance.

I want to run the brush-less to get away from the maintenance issues associated w/ my Cobalt 18 which goes through brushes fairly quickly.

that would work out very well. but still loosen up the slipper. your going to get tons of grip on the floor.
also swap out the stock c hubs with the included option hubs. that will get you on the power in turns sooner without pushing the car to the wall

under my search for tires, i finially found some carisma slick tires w/foams at a local hobby shop. they fit the rims just fine so i'm ok as long as the rim holds together. they also do some fun runs in the parking lot on sundays so i'll bring it out and put it against some 1/10th to see how it hangs. its pretty much a run what you brung ordill.

You say the extra option hubs are included in the kit?

Good to know, thanks!

With regard to 27mhz AM, all are compatible. You can run ANY brand 27 AM crystal in Any brand 27 AM radio. We have been doing it for years (I think we found one exception on some obscure system a while back, but it wasn't one of the major brands). I was told by the guy from Performance Devices (Didn't try to varify it though) that All 27 am crystals come from the same source!
You are correct when it comes to 75 band & FM on either band. Lots of incompatibillities there.
