My stock servo went out tonight. It started to feel sluggish then just stopped working. I pulled it out and took the horn off and the shaft was locked up. It wouldn't budge.
We were racing tonight at Duneland Hobbies in Portage Indiana. Ron had good mini servos in stock.
I'm replacing it with the Integy metal gear Mini Servo 30x13x26mm 6.0V/0.14s/69oz-in.
It won't fit using the stock hardware that comes off the broken servo, but I figured I'd just shoegoo it in or just use servo tape.
I would have to agree with duneland. If there were more aftermarket parts for the Recoil, I think the class would take off........
I guess I kinda disagree here. I think the Recoil works really well out of the box and it doesn't "need" anything out of the box to get it hooked up for fun. That being said, yeah, I've added parts onto mine, mostly minor stuff. I added the turnbuckle set just to make setting toe and camber easier, CV Drive Shafts, and the ball bearing steering set (2 actually and I did the C-Hubs at the same time). My car's pretty hooked up. The only other thing I've really done to my car is to buy an assortment of pinions. I think a ton of aftermarket parts could hurt a new class more than help it. Look at the Micro RS4 class. It was pretty cool and popular at first, but once it went from a basic fun class to an all out $500 car performance class, the class suffered and died. I really think the Recoil's offer something different to the hobby and I don't want to see this become a money class.
Now I will also admit I swapped out the stock electronics for a JR 285 Digital Servo, Spektrum SR3500 receiver, and (this IS overkill but I had an extra one) a KO VFS-1. I didn't need to do these things, but I wanted to use my Z-1. For those looking to swap out the stock servo, the 285 rocks. It is plenty fast and it centers the same each and every time.

First, the MRS4 REQUIRED all that stuff to work! It was never that popular and the class is 1/18 4wd tc, NOT mrs4 class. The class didn't die out at all, it was simply taken over by a better car! Has nothing to do with all the aftermarket parts available. On the contrary, all that stuff makes it possible to run that car competetively (at least in one of the lower power level classes).
As far as the Recoil is concerned, more goddies available will simply increase it's appeal by appealing to a larger segment of the racing public.
Yes, the Recoil is very good right out of the box. But, racers will want more! Like; a spring selection (stock springs are too soft and too long), Carbon fiber chassis (should have been there in the first place), a motor plate & chassis designed for the 380 size motor the car should have had in the first place!
I am certainly not knocking the car, it is one of the biggest sellers at my store right now, and one of the more popular racing classes. I would be selling more of them if the supplied motor was more reliable.
I used denatured alcohol to remove the paint off mine. Works great and doesn't cloud the lexan. I thought having only two choices in color(blue/black)sucked aswell.

Here's mine painted up...looks just like my real Mazda 6...
I'll post a video of my Recoil taken during the third qualifier from today's racing at the RC Barn (www.thercbarn.com) once Youtube finally processes it...managed to set TQ in the round, and the car was hooked up!

I've also attached a pic of my broken wheel...I think this is how most of them are breaking...
yea thats how mine broke....
i slamed in to a chair leg at full speed....
it was hanging by a little plastic.
so i glued it back togeather
it is working for now.
anyway.
im wondering if anyone else is drifting the recoil.
i have a stock set up except for the HPI D-BOX drift assist system
its really nice.
its drifting in my house for now
untill i get the foams that im moding into drift tires.
right now i have packaging tape on the tires.
works good for carpet and hard wood drifting...
anyways just seeing if anyone else if drifting this thing..
peace
I had the only Recoil at the track yesterday, and I'm running a Vendetta 380 motor and a 25 tooth pinion (which I have pics of in an earlier post) and a 6 cell IB1200 NiMH pack. I'm still using the stock ESC and radio...haven't had a problem with it yet, so I'll keep using it. I did upgrade the servo with an HS-81 Hitec...the stock servo is just too sloooooowwwwww.
The other cars in the video are 18T's (some guys are running 18R and Latemodel bodies), and all of them are running brushless setups.
