Both, especially the Mini-T, is a poor comparison. The RTR version of the Mini-T was a terrible car: all plastic, no slipper clutch, gear diff, slow motor, air friction shocks and still needs a 7.2V pack because the car takes 4 AA batteries out of the box. The RC18 is the better deal, coming with ball diffs, oil shocks and a 7.2V battery but again, it's nearly all plastic. There is also the argument of imported R/C cars and kits being more expensive than domestic-made and designed ones, look at the Kyosho Half-8. For $180, it's all plastic, has air friction shocks and runs on AA batteries (Granted the ST is better, but you see the point?). Furthermore, a RTR Xray M18 is going for nearly $200, and it's no barn burner either. The Tamiya GB-01 chassis going for $150-$200, and for what you're paying for, it's a terrible value. For what this car has, $170 is just about right -- Not low enough where Robitronics is losing money on it, and not too high where it is out of reach for most Mini R/C enthusiasts (Mini-Inferno 09).

Opp. My bad on the esc. Still cost is right on (I thought the esc they were going to include would be limited at best).

Drift, your argument is so full of holes... I can't even comment on it.

who ever it was that said go back and play with my micro rs4, i dont have a micro rs4 anymore this name was back from when it first came out and i was just getting back into rc after a couple years.

also, i still think that 200$ for a 18th scale car is too much. no mater if its a
pro kit or not. believe me im not here to bash micros, b/c i love to race them too. i have a mini inferno with about 500$ sunk into it. however, the most i would pay for the scaple would be right at 150. anything more than that i think is too much.

Thai3g_Eclipse- the m18 is only 100 for the roller and then another 50 for the cf chassis.

A: Its street is around 15-25 less than 200.
B: Your example makes no sense. You didn't add the cost of balldiffs into that for one. Where are you getting $50 for a chassis? The cheapest name brand one I find is $55 for the basic version which I dont think includes a aluminum motor mount. Seems very contrary to what you think your saving more by purchasing it all one by one.

Absolutely correct.

The cheapest graphite chassis is the Penguin 7500 for ~$55, and to make it as good as the "Pro" level car, you still need the ball diffs. (~$20 each) and an aluminum motor mount (~$10-$15). All of that amounts to over $200. Unfortunately I took the more expensive route with mine; it was originally a NT18 but I converted it to a M18, so I know exactly the cost involved.

Oh god, we are so far off subject.. Please allow me this response all. He set himself up so elegantly.

Drift. You should remember that same line of thinking next time you try using chinese made rtrs as your comparisons in price. Where human rights abuses are noted all over (see Amnesty International), and there is no true free speech.

Checkmate. Game.

Now can we focus on this car please and stop going on about prices?

drift,

I believe he wants to discuss about factual information of the car, such as the specifications, parts, etc. Cost and price is more of an opinionated perspective, one may think it's too much, someone else might think it's a steal.

The RTR version of the Mini-T was a terrible car: all plastic, no slipper clutch, gear diff, slow motor, air friction shocks and still needs a 7.2V pack because the car takes 4 AA batteries out of the box.

Rich? Please...I managed my finances properly, that's all. Not all my cars are hopped up to the bone either, I have a bone stock RTR Mini-T sitting next to me along with my Pro version, and all I'm doing is just giving my judgment on how it is. If you think the RTR version is something to brag about, you have to be kidding me.

Actually everyone on this thread is right concerning the price of the Scalpel. Those who defend the price because it may be a "pro level" car are right, as that is a reasonable price as compared to a "pro Level" 1/12 pan car which will cost considerably more and the other 1/18 cars on the market are not serious racing machines in their basic form.
However those who feel that the price is too high for a micro car may also have a point. Really it all comes down to what Robotronics and Axial wish to achieve with the Scalpel. If they are going for a nich market that caters to the more serious racers only, who will appreciate the performance features of the Scalpel and usually spend more to get a better performing car; then ok.
However, if they are trying to appeal to the larger mass market of rc car customers, and they want to sell a large volume of this car; then maybe the price is too high for the average rc'er to spend for what is essentially a rolling chassis. The general public will undoubtedly compare the features of the car and its price to other cars of either the same scale or of larger scales and conclude that $180 is too much to spend for a rolling chassis when they can purchase an RC18 RTR for $170. I know its not apples-too-apples as the Scalpel is a "pro" car and the RTR RC18 is not; but remember the general rc car public that buys the most cars will not see it that way unfortunately. If they are going for the mass market then I think the price should be no more than $120.
So you see, both sides are right depending on what the goal is of Robotronics and Axial; and only they know for sure.
Time will tell.
I hope they succeed as I think it to be an excellent car!

there is no doubt that this car will be a preformer. but the car is a very simple design thats why i think that it is over priced.

Size or scale has little to do with price. It's all about man hours, tooling costs. No reason why one should expect this car to be much cheaper than a 1/12 car of compairable design.
Back to the car.....
It should be in hand in a few days.. Then it will be time for the acid test!
