The car does handle well in stock form. Performance is somewhat lackluster however. I prefer a somewhat higher level of performance, so modifications are required.
By the way, brushless does not necesarrily mean high performance. Just means no maintainance. There are plenty of lower performance bl motors that would mirror the general performance level of the stock set-up.
But what I have read on the internet everyone wants this to go 1000 mph, and expect it to handle like a 1/12 scale. The Scalpel is not a 4WD micro car
and from what I have read everyone expects that, yes this car is new but unique to this market and we will have to find a good setup for this car.
I don't think it is unreasonable to expect it to handle like a 1/12. After all, it is same only smaller! It will take some evolution to see it's true potential.
A properly designed/scaled/set-up 1/18 pan car, should be able to outperform a 1/18 4wd tc. The 1/10 pans (now extinct), would blow away a tc. Problem is, Scalpel is not scaled the same as 1/10 pan v.s. 1/10 tc. Plus, Scalpel is brand new and we have been refining the m18's for a few years now. It will take a little time, but I think it will arrive.
im just glad the scalpel is available now. I hope the spare parts start flowing as well. Aftermarket companies... IGR Motek Penguin and others.... will start making hop ups.......Its all good....
It handles ok with my Mamba Comp X setup. The right tires and knowing how to modulate the throttle along with the steering the car will handle without issues. I have ran it in stock form double saucing the fronts and just saucing the rears once works well for the time being while waiting for the new compounds to come out.
Can anyone provide me with a link to a Robitronic SCALPEL Movie/video footage? The link on Robitronis site no longer works nor do any of the others I have found. I am seriously considering getting one but would like to see it in action.
Thanks in advance!

Yup- countersinking is terrible. Strange why they chose to use all the 3mm hardware on an 1/18th scale car also that has only a 1.5mm thick chassis.
I have not had that problem, but I went to put a different motor in it and the motor plate bottom is twice as thick than the top motor screw area. I found a early trinity motor that fit, but the motor screws are not long enough. this is not fun

I think I read something on the Robitronics site about having to order a different motor mount if you want to use a brushless. Not sure what you are trying to put in it though....
