This is the material of our local track. We are currently running 18Ts, MiniTs, M18s, etc. with foam and no traction compound without a problem. In this thread though I've heard it mentioned a couple times that tire dope is a must. Do you guys think the Scalpel will hook up on this foam without dope?

M18's rule! The Scalpel needs so much work. If it only worked as good as a real 1/12 scale right out of the box like it looks like. The Scalpel might pull a really fast lap time occasionally but then the car will get totally out of shape. It's inconsistant to drive and so scary because its so fragile. The M18 just keeps clickin' off fast lap after lap. Very hard to break. The Scalpel is fun to mess with. Let me know if anyone gets one going good enough to try and school my M18. I race in the Chicago area. I'm looking for competition plus I'd just like to know the setup if there is one for the direct drive car. Post pictures. I know of people working on projects using Scalpel parts.

Why dont you work on it, find your own set up. Its easy to get someone to ask for a setup, harder to find your own.

Part of the hobby is playing with the car to figure out what works and what doesnt.

You 'll never know how to work on your own stuff if you dont take the time to set it up.

This car is no different than setting up a 12 scale.

I am not bitching at you just trying to incourage you to learn about what you have.

Nick is pretty sharp with set-up & races/works with one of the sharpest 1/12 racers in the country. He's just pointing out that the Scalpel has a way to go, before it's up to it's potential.
Mine is getting there. But, when the chips are down, I go with a 4wd. I'll keep putting in some effort to improve the consistancy and speed of the Scalpel. Nicks M18, my m18 and my NRX 18, have been evolving. They are going to be tough to beat. The Scalpel will need some more track time and evolution time, before they will replace the ones we run now.
My track will be running them in sepperate classes. That way, we can get more track time with them, without having to choose which one is best.
Nick, why don't you and Dan start comming to my place on Saturdays? We can thrash with both classes... That'll be a blast.

I'm watchin the scapel and might get it for the fun of it, but is not the 4wd vrs 2wd a very old argument that was resolved years ago. They could never be run together and considered equal.

Default I want one

I will be ordering a scalpel within the week. Will a futaba 133F receiver fit on the chassis? I will probably start it out with a brushed system.. ie. spy speedo and stock 300 motor.
Just wanted to make sure the receiver would fit.

133F will fit. That's what I'm running in mine until I put in my HRS.

We are ready to begin producing the first aftermarket chassis for the Scalpel but we need a little help. People have requested a longer wheelbase but nothing has been finalized.
What would everyone like to see the wheelbase of the car to be?
One thing that should be kept in mind is the fact that this car is essentially 66% the size of current 1/12 scale cars and extending the wheelbase too much will drastically alter the 1/12 scale like handling.

Being most 1/18 scales have wb between 140-150mm something in that range....If you go bigger what body would fit???
Personally I want to see what I can do with it at 130mm w 4 cell and a 300 motor....If i get bored quick....then i would be open to a longer wb to get more power and handling into the scalpel....

I just got my Scapel and I don't think that putting a brushless system in this car is the right thing to do. This car is to light, if you over power this car it will drive like crap. Try it out stock first and if you need more witch I don't think so you guys will see a diffrent car.
