A couple of us have longer versions in the works. I think a 150mm wheelbase will be much better for those of us that like lots of power! It's quite a hand full w bl/LiPo in its current wheelbase.
you can use the pti 150mm body or get a custom lid from homer.....
I saw the scalpel at the track on Friday night and it looks good but not worth $180. The thing that has me wondering now the perfect 1/18 pan car has to be modified......

Tinkering and modifying is what makes this hobby go around. And if you paid $180.00 for yours, well you paid to much. I ran two packs through mine yesterday and im on my way back this morning to wear it out all day. I race oval pan car & 1/8 offroad in the summer months so this 1/18 scale is just used to get me through the winter months. I think it's a great little car for the money considering all the engineering that went into it.
20mm is a little more than tinkering. You alter a chassis like that now it may not be legal to race. The reality of this platform is it is meant to be raced.....
Keeping the cars on a level playing field is what attracts me as a racer.
It is new technology and I embrace it. The car is an infant and we must let the car grow. I was looking forward to a 130mm car w a tuned 300 (krystal 3) and 4 elite 1500s. (possibly 300 stock class??) Now with high powered brushless and 150mm wb the car is destined for outlaw racing......
Tires arent even available yet.....
Just a note. Buds car is about 145mm wheelbase. The class started already with those. Not sure how lengthening the Scalpel to at least match would count as illegalizing it.
I will use the BRP gtp body for intial R&D work on on the long wb chassis. Stock body could be used, but rear wheelwell is fairly 'defined'. Think the BRP shell is a better choice. Will contact homer for bodies after testing.
Since there are no parameters established, altering the wheelbase will not make the car illegal to run anywere. Furthermore, the 130 wb is not to scale anyway. Have you compaired a 1/10 pan car to a 1/10 TC? I consider changing the wheelbase to be a fairly small mod, with potentialy dramatic improvement.
I don't recall anyone referring to the scalpel as 'perfect'. It is simply the first 1/18 car (of any type---on-road, off-road, etc.) that does not insult the racer with 'toys r us' type components. Being the first, I expect it to come up short in some areas. With the stock battery/motor arrangement, it handles extremely well. I am used to racing a LiPo/bl m18, so I like LOTS of power! The scalpel will deffinately need some alteration to handle big power.
So far, laptimes are about the same as with my m18. I have been able to crack off one faster lap per run with the Scalpel, but overall a bit slower due to the car being more difficult to handle. A longer wheelbase will be key in improving consistancy.
We will be racing a stock & an open class for 1/18 pan (direct drive 2wd cars).
by the way, 1/18 donuts work on the scalpel rim. I had some magenta donuts in stock & re-treaded some fronts. Unfortunately, the donuts have disappeared from distributors listings.
I have the Mamba Comp X in mine w/o modifying anything and using stock everything. It is manageable and I am using 4 cell 2/3A pks. Putting lipo in it will just make the car handle funny w/o the proper weight distribution. Besides you can program the ESC at the slowest settings. Right now I have it at normal settings and saucing the tires all around and it handles all right, double saucing the fronts will make it turn better as well with those stock hard tires in front, which was advised by a friend of mine.
This car is a PRO-LEVEL 1/18 pan car. First time a manufacturer has produced a true racers machine! Price is in line for what it is..
Perfect....PRO-LEVEL my mistake......
Im looking forward to getting mine($120 free shipping too...membership has advantages) and most likely just practicing with it like i did with my BRP pan car. I just hope the Scalpel doesnt fizzle like the BRP.
BRP still has a cult following in some parts of the country (mostly around where Buds is though ; ). I think part of the problem with the BRP was distribution, and well... It simply was outclassed with newer vehicles. Some of its materials and build are primitive compared to what came out later on. That, and its not exactly that cheap for what it is once you throw in bearings and the ball diff.
Don't get me wrong, I just don't think it was ever designed to be "pushed" to really take it to the next level. It was designed though to use 1/10th equipment which back in the day made it easier to get up and running. Nowadays, this isnt a requirement. Though part of that would be Bud just doesn't have a large enough backing to do what Robitronics has.
In short, it hasn't kept up with the times. Mmm.. Wouldn't it be cool if Bud could (and wanted to) get distribution rights for the Trackdrooler (ok yes, this is vaporware)? That way he could be behind something that really was first class.

berm hook it up with where you purchased yours ..PM if need be
All of the BRP fanboys are at hobbytalk.com. You should see their Scalpel thread. It's like 3 pages of Scalpel bashing and Bud Bartos horn tooting. Probably because BRP sponsors the forum
