I was speaking with this guy at the local parking lot track and he mentioned the xray does not handle well on parking lot asphalt. Are there other tires besides xray i can use? there are these rubber tires that are used with the 18r that handles very well on parking lot asphalt. are these tires available for the m18?

The XRAY can handle well on asphalt but it needs to be very smooth and high bite. There are no good rubber tires for the XRAY, at least that will allow it to keep up with the 18R on asphalt.

This sucks. I got this thing in mind with racing the 18r on asphault... So i guess money down the drain...

Yeah, the HPI rubber tires were good stuff, but unfortunately they were discontinued.
It's indoor season just about everywhere (Except here) so you can definitely sell the car. I have a 18R if you are interested. It's tricked out and ready to go and so is my M18 if anybody is interested.

for asphalt has anyone tried GQ 'C1" compound which is their asphalt/carpet foam vs 'C2" which is their carpet only compound? I wonder how that would go.

The foams tend to get worn out pretty quickly on asphalt, especially when the surface is rough or there is low bite.

good point and that's why larger scales try to stay away from foam whenever possible - not to mention they'll chunk if you hit a board and such...but do you know if they actually work on asphalt?
I think thats a bit presumptious since the person claiming this is just happening to sell his as well.
I dont know what type of asphalt your running on. Ours was treated indoors. Anyhow, the rc18Rs could never handle it. Anytime one showed up to race against us M18s, they would attempt one or two times and never come again.
Also, where was it said these are no longer being made? I see HPI listing out of stock only. Not discontinued.
It's funny you said that seeing as how I just spoke with him last night and also own a M18 and owned one years ago as well.
HPI is not manufacturing the tires any longer and when I was looking a couple of months back, the soft rear tires weren't in stock anywhere. Even if they were, you wouldn't be able to rely upon subsequent availability. Even if the tires were available, the M18 would still struggle. I know because at one time, I raced the M18 exclusively here in SoCal.
I know the climate and the tracks that we race on and the M18 just won't work, at least not everywhere. We race outdoors and the tracks are not as smooth as an indoor track hence my reasonings for stating that the M18 won't work well. I have attempted to run my M18 on our tracks here to no avail. No, I am not speaking out of my rear, I am speaking from experience. I have nothing against the M18 as I own one, however, it is better suited for indoor tracks and we don't have any nearby.
I am not stating which car is better as each has particular areas where it may/will excel over the other.
Lastly, I don't care whether or not my 18R sells, or my M18 for that matter. When I spoke with teeforb yesterday, I described the cars each without exhibiting any bias.

what a blast from the past......
never raced my mrs4 or my m18 outdoors but back in 2004 we were ripping the ozite in NJ at Potbellies....
Mike R. that is Mr. Exotek himself....back then it was Motek Mike....
Even the EITS chassis
what is sad for me the 1/18 onroad racing just fizzled out in my neck of the woods....
I agree the m18 isnt a good outdoor onroad car.......your not going to find that kind of track it needs unless your very lucky....
