Does that servo saver fit the Futaba servo you showed us? Personally I'd recommend getting a metal gear servo since you'll be needing a servo anyway. But either way, get some of those small steel "rings" I showed you for the servo saver and you'll be good! Congrats on your near-purchase, you won't be disappointed
That's the same powertrain/battery combo I race with mine and it's silly quick! Keeps up with other LiPo'd mini's.
I just got my 3racing shocks in the mail. All I can say is WOW! Those things are superbly made. Haven't gotten my truck yet to put them on, but I can't wait to see the thing go. But these shocks just look excellent. : )
Trust me jbrow you won't be disappointed. Raced with them on my truck for 6 months and only broke 1 shaft due to a bad collision on the track. So other than that I NEVER had to rebuild them or top them off. And I ended up running all 4 black springs they come with, seemed to work better for me than any blue/gold combo.
I would suggest a set of tools. The included tools for assembly are horrible.
Take your time and dont rush. Taking your time will only take you 2 1/2 hours if you never assembled a kit before.
Be patient, very very patient.

I wont get to drive it until the 2 feet of snow melts so I am going to enjoy the build process as much as I can. I may even take it apart and build it again!
The servo saver Im getting will fit that servo right?

Thanks for the info. I was wondering if the ae springs would go on them or not. I was also surprised to see the ones I bought came with extra pistons and some other goodies. So the shocks don't pop off since they are held on by ballcups?
Yes they use the exact same size springs, I don't know the compression rating on the black springs but I like them. I also like that you can get 1-, 2-, and 3-hole piston dampers included. They can come off but they stay on much better than the stock in my opinion.
When building your kit, just remember a couple of things. If a screw threads into any metal material, use threadlock. I also like to put a little bit of oil on all my bearings, then spin them a bit to get the oil worked in. This is especially nice if the drivetrain will be put through higher RPM's, such as in the case of high KV brushless and/or LiPo.
Also if you notice that there is freeplay on anything such as the driveshaft or differentials, use shims now to avoid doing it later. I use a couple of small washers next to my spur gear to prevent the driveshaft from sliding back and forth, and the diff's seat perfectly into my aluminum gearboxes. After I had put new oiled bearings in it was one of the smoothest drivetrains I'd ever felt.
Thanks again for the info.
Can't wait to get the thing and play around with it. Actually it's a used rtr from a friend of mine. I'll upgrade it as I go along, for now besides the shocks, gearcover, and some steering stuff it will probably be ran stock unless the electronics give me any problems. But I will tear it down and go thru it like you say and make sure it's right. I won't be able to race my big cars for awhile so I figure this will make a good around the home car. And I can make a 1/18 track much easier than a 1/8 track in my backyard!! lol Nieces should really like it too.
So how much runtime can I expect from a nimh 1100 batt with the stock motor?
Wow been a long time since I ran that combo, but I wanna say upwards of at least 20-25 minutes. With my 1600 and 6800 Mamba I can pull 20 minutes of hard bashing, but racing is a different story.
Thanks again for the info.

I run my 18b and my 18r in a spec class. In my spec class we run 5 cell batteries and the stock motor. I ran an 8 minute b-main and an 11 minute a-main on the same pack. So id say 30-35 minutes of normal driving conditions.

That is amazing. I guess I can stop looking at lipo batts for it then. I was figuring maybe ten minutes. But that's cool, I already have a few batts so all's good in that dept.
Thanks.
