I disagree. Compromising the structural integrity of the retainer ring drastically reduces its ability to prevent outdrive spread. Grinding the drive pins down until they are flush with the outdrive hurts nothing. I've done 4 sets of MIP shiny's this way with no durability, wear or performance issues on two different BL set-ups. The only trick to it is to round the pins so they maintain the same contact surface area regardless of suspension position.

Sorry, but that's terrible advice!
By slotting the outdrive sleeves you're giving the suspension another place to bind up, since the dogbones or bone-end of the cvds move rather freely side-to-side in the outdrive, and potentially lead to other problems.
Literally all the racers that I've seen mildly grind/file their drive pins so they don't drag on the outdrive sleves.

You dont cut the slot all the way thru the ring, just enough for the pins to slide in and out freely. Both ends of the ring are still intact. I have run this way on several cars with high power brushless systems and Lipo. It does not harm the strength of the ring at all, and it prevents you from possibly ruining a good set of CVDs. There is no way for anything to bind, unlike trying to file the pins on your nice new CVDs. A mm too long and you get binding, a mm too short and now you need new CVDs and outdrives.

Ill try to get some pictures up so you can see. Its quite obvious to be a far better fix.

Default RC18t foam inserts

Does anyone know where I can get some firm foam inserts for the rc18t? It seams that trinity has discontinued there firm foam inserts. I'm more of an on road racer but wanted to try some off road carpet racing with the rc18t. I'll be racing on ozite w/rubber street tires (stock class) and after reading some posts on this subject, I realized that the firm foam inserts would be better suited than the soft inserts. Any help would be appreciated.
Also, what should my ride height be front and rear, and what weight shock oil front and rear for off road carpet racing?
