Burnineyes,
Thanks for the info. I did try that previously - trying to get a middle setting between the two, but it still pulled to the same side. You're right, they are a fun little rig and I look forward to getting it straightened up. I am used to 2-wheel drive trucks, so driving a 4-wheel is really fun!

The outdrive sleeves are just a good measure of insurance. Even stock power systems can easily tear up a plastic outdrive on the wrong hands! I still run stock diffs in mine and I always keep those sleeves in place. With the MIPs I had to cut slots in the sleeves to allow the pins to clear. I dont think they really help much with wear, you may have worn pins on your dogbone.
Thetoyz.com has the GPM diffs for $20. I have never used them but they look nice.
I have 2 ezrun and 2 turnigy systems. The turnigy are from hobbycity, and they are exactly the same as the ezruns. They are amazing for my setup. I can run all day with Mamba systems. I do run on a small low speed track though. I have seen some minor cogging when geared to run very fast in parking lots, but no more than any other sensorless system. I higly recommend a Hobbycity brushless and Lipo for these cars, very good performance.
Hi again,
I will probably replace the stock servo in my 18T, and am looking at an HS55. I knkow the 56 is a higher torque servo and better, but I probably won't be driving it that much. I think that the 55 is at least better than the stock servo. If it is not, please let me know. I am on a tight budget, so given the fact I won't be putting any abusive use on it, I thought the 55 would be okay. Now what I need to know before buying is whether the Hitek 55 will "bolt right on" or if there is something I need to know before installing it. Is it just a simple replacement, or do I need other parts? Is the servo saver the same? Thank you.
The 55 should hold up fine without ramming into anything. I think it is pretty much stock replacement though, not going to get any noticeable improvements until you get up to the 65. Get Associated part#21049 to make any Hitec a direct fit.
Burnin,
Do you mean the 56? You typed 65. Is the part number you give a servo saver, or a bracket or something that would make it fit better? I may consider the better servo then since it won't be any stronger than stock. Thank you so much for your help.
This is the servo I was recommended to use and which I bought http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXLGJ5. It has worked excellent and I actually superglued the servo saver together to get some positive steering. A servo alone will not fix the wandering and non centering issue. The DP draglink makes the steering alot better for an affordable price and compliments the servo well. For outdrive savers you can go to the hardware and find some 5/16 compression fittings, or some thin copper tubing that fits snug over the outdrive. That's my little project for tomorrow. The dp spur gear cover is probably the best upgrade I've made besides the servo. Haven't caught a pebble in the gears since and all it does is run offroad on a loose dirty rocky surface.
Burnin - what exact turnigy speedo and motor do you have or recommend?
Thanks, Jbrow, I will check out those items. I am glad to hear they have a cover because I always thought that was a bad idea leaving the spur and pinion exposed like that. I appeciate all the help I am getting here. You guys are great!
Yes the are very helpful in this rc18 thread. They've helped me everytime I've asked a question. Nothing I hate more than guys telling people to read the thread or do a search all the time. : )
Man I need to get a brushless and a higher capacity lipo in the truck. Getting tired of the hot brushed motors no matter how I gear em, and the 15c lipo is starting to scare me too...
The outdrive savers I made from copper tubing worked nicely though. Although the next time I will use a dremel cutoff rather than a tubing cutter b/c it squishes it down to much and you have to dremel the inside diameter to get it to fit again. But a 2 foot stick was under 3 bux so I'll have outdrive savers forevvva. lol
And a question for the guys who run rear shocks in the front... how do you keep the cvd from falling out of the outdrive? I wanted to use the lowest shock tower hole but am afraid the cvd will pop out at full extension.
Think this winter I will have to make my own CF chassis and see if I can get a little more space or things laid out differently.

I think the hs55 servo has a smaller servo horn attachment so the associated kit may not fit because it's a smaller servo. hs56 is adirect fitment the hs65 series you will need to remove some material about 1.8mm from the inner side of the servo holder and you will also need a longer servo screw that are 8mm long.
I did mean the HS-65MG, but I am glad Chris chimed in because I forgot I had to find a longer screw to fit the 65. I have both the 56 and 65, but I didnt have any trouble fitting either in the car without mods. The Associated part # I posted before comes with mounts and a servo saver that is direct replacement for stock. I have 3 of these RC18s and I get confused as to what I have done to each of them. The DP draglink is a great mod, or the full aluminum steering set from Thetoyz.com is another good option.
i have the hs65 MG and I was wondering what would be a good servo saver for it, my stock original servo saver that comes with the rc18t kit is too loose now. Does anyone else with this servo notice that it gets warm?

You can take an old shock spring and cut a round off it and slide it over the servo saver, this takes a lot of the slop out of the steering.
