Who makes the best 1/24 for your money?
#6
I have a bunch of these 1/24 scales, Losi, Kyosho, carisma and random knockoffs.
Kyosho is the most refined and feels the closest to a 1/10, which is nuts to say but true. Carisma is close behind with feel but just doesn’t have the aftermarket and tun-ability.

The Carisma, definitely. I find it to be more 1/10 like than the Kyosho IMO. The Carisma is certainly waaay better value than the Kyosho also.
It would be great if smaller manufacturers who currently make on road 1/27 or 1/28 cars started making off road micros too. I mean if Atomic or GL Racing did buggies. Would be very high quality.

Hard to beat the value with the Carisma. Never seen anything from WLtoys so can’t comment on them. Kyosho is different level stuff. But price comes with it. I did try the Losi once years ago. AM radio version, big disappointment as it had no range.

The Losi 2.4 brushless car and truck were awesome. Still Are. I like my Carisma tho very solid. I hear nothing but good from WL tho and for $50 $60 bucks it seems like a value. They are brushed but they look like mini 1/10 touring cars. I ordered one we will see.

The Losi 1/24 seems to be in a weird spot. Most say they have been discontinued. It shows that way on parts. Yet when I emailed Horizon to ask, they say it’s not, nor are there any plans to discontinue them.

Hadn’t heard that. Wonder what they will change. I still want a road car version, more then the rally. Like a LMP prototype style.

Here’s what I’ve seen and gathered from looking at all the 1/24 options, and owning/upgrading the Carisma GT24B
Highest quality & best handling - Kyosho 1/24 Mini Z Buggy:
Pros:
- Amazing steering
- Super controllable (no cogging)
- Oil shocks
- Tons if available upgrades, tuning parts, and hop ups
Cons:
- Expensive
- Spares and upgrades are also expensive
- AAA batteries
- over complicated design
Best value & best basher - Carisma GT24B
Pros:
- Cheap (price)
- Brushless
- stupid fast on 2s but controllable on 1s
- Spares are really cheap, most of the parts are $2
- Durable (be careful with the front arms though)
- Simple design
- great TX
Cons:
- Drivetrain binds sometimes
- ESC cogs a lot
- shocks suck
- steering is mediocre
- hop ups are somewhat limited
Great in between - Losi Micro 1/24 SCTE/Rally X (as longs as it’s brushless)
- Handling is good (oil shocks but bad steering, from what i’ve Seen it doesn’t cog)
- Structural parts are super durable (arms, towers, chassis, etc.)
- Lots and lots of hop ups available (if you can find them)
- simple design
- brushless
- Great TX
Cons:
- poor steering
- some have diff problems
- Discontinued so parts are super hard to find
The carisma has been great for me, but I wanted something a little more controllable. I upgraded to Losi shocks (aluminum because I couldn’t find the stock plastic ones) and matsucars towers, a castle micro esc (I’d recommend the hobbyking 10a esc so you can keep running 1s LiPo), an HS65HB (awesome little servo), and an HPI TF40 TX/RX. I’m really happy with it right now because it handles great, parts are really cheap and available, and it’s super fast and pretty durable.
My next go-fast micro is for sure going to be a Kyosho Mini Z Buggy.

Yet here’s response from Horizon. October 30,2017. Please others email them. Maybe finally get them to make sense. It’s like Losi discontinued them without tell Horizon.

Just got my 1/24 Carisma in the mail today, ...doesn't work. Yes I checked the gear mesh ...even dis-engaged the motor and throttled it, the motor is totally anemic in the one I got. Motor barely turns, then cuts out and needs about 10sec's before it starts again. ...so now I have to return it, wait for my money back and decide if I want to order another? ...it took 2 weeks to get the one that doesn't work, will be another month probably before I can get a new one. ...Has anyone else experienced this w/ the Carisma GT24B? -hoping I just got a dud and a lot are not like this.
