Default Questions about MaxAmp lipos

I have a Brushless ERevo and spend allot of time on the Traxxas forums. And it seems like anytime anyone says they have Maxamps packs they get flamed and told they wasted thier money and how great Zippy lipos are. I have a pair of the 6500s for my truck and love them. They fit well and have a ton of runtime. And considering Traxxas tests all thier trucks with Maxamps I dont see why all the Traxxas owners would be so salty about it. Check out this thread.

some people can't afford quality, so they bash them.

I am not biased at all.

I know that you get what you pay for and zippys are good but they are from hong kong and they have support but it costs more than the battery did to send it back for warranty not to mention 1 month turn around

I think for what it is, maxamps lipos are priced way to high. Not to mention they dont have hard cased lipos, and nothing that is roar approved nor will they be anytime soon. To me they are an overpriced lipo for bashers.

totally agree. I dont think the original poster is going to get many realistic responses though since he posted it in the maxamps forum.

I even use to run maxamps packs. First bought them 5-6 years ago when they were cheaper then most. I bought my last pack from them about 2 years ago though because saddle packs were not available at most places (really didn't want to but didn't have other choices at the time).

Now that I race more I will only buy roar approved packs for the cars I race. Also since maxamps is now a lot more expensive then others or realistically any other company I really cant see a reason to buy there batteries at this time.

We do offer several Cased versions as far a ROAR approval it just doesn't pay to do it at this time in full force. Not everyone races ROAR. Many other series out there do require cases that don't need to be ROAR approved and there are also series like the RC Pro Series that doesn't require cased packs at all. As for pack cost if your a registered member with us that discount will put you at a lower cost on the packs, which if you do the research are equally priced at the normal un discounted price with many other packs being sold these days. Example:

SMC pack: http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...odID=SUM5240CM

$172.80

MaxAmps pack: http://www.maxamps.com/Lipo-5250HC-74-Pack.htm

$134.99

and that's our price with out any discount.

Plus we are the only ones making your packs fresh as you order with cells that arrive every three weeks. Add our top notch customer service and support and the fact that the packs are built and shipped with in 24 to 48 ours of the order, you simply can't find anyone else that does or offers that.

Best regards,

Jason

Here: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXWZR1&P=ML

$159.99 same pack as the other listing still more than ours.

Like I said sign up a a member and you get the discount. 5% on the first order. Then 10% on the next order if the first goes over $100.00.

So if you sign up and buy the 2S 5250 cased pack from us you'll get it for 5% off at $128.25. 10% off at $121.50 if you ordered another down the road

People are more particular about quality now, I use Polyquest or Reedy packs myself. I tried Maxamps once, the pack lasted half a run and then died and I felt I was given the runaround so being rather upset at the situation, I let everyone know (I vented :P), with postage etc to Australia I was out $194.82 USD incl postage (order # 115137)

So my opinions are based on my experience.

I'm sure if you bought a battery for $194.82 shipped and it lasted no longer than 10 minutes you'd bag them out too.

The order was placed on 6/29/08 and it took until 7/22/08 for Maxamps to get around to refunding me, after many emails.

My question to you is if this scenario happened to you, would you go back or recommend them to people?

I'm sure there are many people happy with Maxamps, just as there are people such as myself who haven't had much luck with them, I think anyone buying batteries, or anything else, needs to look at the good and bad reviews and make their own decision.

I have gotten good customer service from maxamps, I will give them that.

However I have owned lots of different packs (thunder power, reedy, smc, polyquest, neu, truerc, maxamps and some cheap ebay packs).

Now out of everything I have owned the only packs that ever gave me problems were the maxamps and the really cheap ebay packs. The ebay packs just didn't have good punch but never puffed or anything. My maxamps packs however, always needed to be balanced and really didn't come close to the performance I would expect for there listed C rating (my truerc packs worked better and were rated lower, let alone a lot cheaper).

I actually still have a working thunder power pack from 2004. However I haven't had a maxamps pack last much more then 1 season. Now that I think of it I have wasted a lot of money there.

My favorite packs would have to be reedy and then smc.

anyways since this is the maxamps section and really dont think much good can come of this thread I will end here.

What the hell are you guys smoking in the outback?? I would say that is a pretty damn decent turn around time for an issue like this. It would take you more than that time to even get a response from hobbyking

I particularly remember the thread that contained this. I've had issues with maxamps in the past but I don't keep bringing them up over and over again. They have done their best to address the issues I had and I am now a loyal customer. I don't even look anywhere else for lipos if I can help it.

Every respectable business does whatever it takes to keep customer loyalty and address complaints as best they can. But businesses are run by humans, and those humans make mistakes. They forget, misplace paperwork, have staffing problems, the lot.

There is such a thing as a 'bad customer', and bad customers in my business (EG: ones that refuse to pay their bills) go on a blacklist, never to be dealt with again.

With that said, I will speak about the packs themselves.

I have a 6000hv pack and a 2000mah pack. There is a 1.2 year gap between the large and small pack. the large pack new had excellent punch, a very long runtime and charged up in an acceptable time. Now, two of the three major areas still hold true. It still has good runtime, charges well but runtime has dropped. Cause is undetermined as of this time.

The new 2000mah pack acted well.. odd when I first got it. When the battery was charging for the first time, it either reported a disconnected battery or reported over 14 volts.. from a 2 cell pack. It was rather disturbing, but then I had a hunch: it may not have been broken in properly and that it was using brand new cell technology. After a few cycles the battery settled down and started to deliver the proper voltage and roughly 2200mah, even at the maximum 10A (5C) discharge on the ICE.
