Default Maxamps 4S 6000mah Lipo, balancing question

I noticed that this pack seems to need balancing all the time. Is that fairly common?

What I have been doing is with my MRC 989 charger combined with the LBA10+ Balancer, I do the charge, and then when its done let the balancer work on the pack by itself till its balanced.

Your Best bet would be balance after use. And then Balanc while charging. This way they start the same and th balancer will ensure that they end at the same point plus it will keep them from over charging.

Yes several of the guys that have bought packs from me have asked the same thing. They say Orion says you do not need to balance, what is your suggestion about balancing, does it always need to be done, or at all?

As far as we are concerned yes you should balnce everytime. Just befor you charge and during. Befor levels the cells out so that they are the same. Balancing during will prevent a cell from being overcharged during the process. All Li-Po's need this done.

Here is a question, do different pack chemistries like LiMN affect when you should and shouldn't balance?

The bigest problem with the Li-types is that if not balanced any one cell can overcharge and that will lead to a big problem. It doesn't take any longer to balance and charge. It the wise way to go if you want a longer pack life and the safest way to charge a pack. Orion needs to stop feeding people false info. Eventually someone is gonna get hurt following thier suggestions.

I'm sorry but if you want to follow what Orion is saying, then have at it but expect to be buying a lot of packs because they won't last. Oh yeah and I would always charge them out side away from anyone or thing because without them being monitored by a balancer it will only be a matter of time before you have an issue. We want your packs from us to last that's why we will continually give you the correct info. Misleading people to sell more packs is wrong.

I had another manufacturer tell me some things about balancing packs. Basically, non-quality packs need balancing (this was not Orion / Peak). So I was like, ok, so do I got it direct from you that your packs don't need balancing.

Never got a response back from them on that one.

I purchased a 4400 saddle pack and I have an MRC 989 charger. Question is, which balancer to use? How to use it with my charger? Thanks for the help

RedMan your gonna like this. check this out here.http://www.maxamps.com/MA-Method-Balancer.htm plug it into your charger and then plug your pack main leads into it along with the balance taps. It will auto detect wether you need to be in connection mode or Standalone mode. and with the use of the Hyperion adapter boards you can use it with the Hyperion taps, Align Taps, or the TP taps. It will do one to 3 cells or with a balance tap y harness you can do two 2S packs as one 4s or two 3S packs as a 6S.

Any questions just let me know.

You have to put your desired plug on it or ask us to do so if you order one. And no I don't race. I'm the Marketing Manager for MaxAmps and I work from my home in Minnesota.

redman: I run an MRC989 charger with an LBA10+ balancer. It works quite well for charging my max amps 14.8V 6000mah 4S pack. Its pretty straight forward, just configure a profile for your lipo and go from there. I have been happy with the combo, and MRC has been excellent in there customer service.
